I love Chinese buffet more than just about anything else in the world. And I know how to eat with chopsticks from Yvonne Lee over at the old China Harbor. But I never do it - I'm a fork kind of girl and it seems pretentious to mess with chopsticks when I have more serviceable utensils to choose from.

Sorry, Chinese people, but chopsticks aren't one of your better inventions. :ohwell:

I haven't checked recently, but if my jaw is slack I'd better go see a doctor. I've got a pair of chopsticks here at home, and I use them occasionally for practice, out of RESPECT for the SLANTY-EYED LITTLE RUNTS who are selling us derivations of their traditional foods. I dont complain (although I WANT TO)when the little buggers won't speak ENGLISH in AMERICA, so I see no reason why THEY should complain about ME trying to use their chopsticks.

Good grief, man, go eat a popsicle or something!!! :duh:
I apologize, everybody, for my over-reaction yesterday afternoon. It was to say the least mean spirited and un-Christian, and definitely not representative of the person I'm trying to become. I'm sorry, anyone who was offended by my post; it was way out of line and I didn't mean it.

It takes a good person to admit their mistakes.

When we lived in Japan (when I was really little), I couldn't grasp the whole chopstick concept. So I refused and used a fork. But nowadays, it's fun to use chopsticks at restaurants -- it's not like you get that option at Denny's.

I refuse to eat with chopsticks. I'm an american using a fork. I know that the chinese people have been using chopstics for thousands of years,

Actually....

I seem to remember reading once, that in China they found an ancient (read: thousands of years) archeological site. Amongst the pottery and art and cookware, they found...

... eating implements that resembled forks and spoons.

Apparently the chopsticks were a more recent invention.

I wish I could remember where I read this so I could be sure that I'm correct, and to cite my source. If I get some time (and if I remember to) I'll see if I can dig up more info on that.

If you find it, PLEASE post it, so that I can teach my Chinese friend some Chinese history.
