My burb decides to not want to go in lower gear but finally did while driving this weekend. I checked the fluids and it was down. I filled it and added some lucas anti slip in the mix. Drove it a bit the next day and shifted fine. I went to park on an incline and Park did not hold it, it kept drifting back 2 feet and finally stopped.

So, now I am guessing an issue with parking pawl. I plan to keep driving it and use the emergency break when I park and hopefully no other issues until I have the money to get it rebuilt or by one already rebuilt and drop in.

Searching the forums, I learned to stay away from AAMCO and go with The Gear Box. Has anyone had bad experience driving with a bad pawl?

Monster has a 4L60E Transmission 4x4 Heavy Duty, 1pc Case 4WD
for 1305. A two piece case runs 100 bucks more.

4L60E Transmission Remanufactured 4x4 Heavy Duty 1pc Case 4WD

Does not seem like a bad price compared to some I have seen.

:gossip: it's a parking brake, not an emergency brake

Guess why they call it that

:gossip: The most common use for an automobile emergency brake is to keep the vehicle motionless when it is parked, thus the alternative name, parking brake.

Since I am using the foot ratchet and not the Hand brake, I will use parking brake.

Just a side note if you are thinking about swapping the tranny yourself, look into Powertrain Products Inc in Upper Marlboro. I swapped my 4L60 in my 99 Burb this summer with a Reman from there. They delivered and picked it up for free to my house without me being present for either and the price with tax was only $1600 with a new cooler. The core fee is waived for 30 days. Its working great! If you want more details ask me.

If you are not going to DIY the tranny, go to the Gear Box! They have taken care of me with my other toys and did great jobs every time. Highly recommend them over anyone especially AAMCO!

I've got a great mechanic. He works full time for a shop that gets great reviews in this thread and does work on the side at home. He is not fast since it's side work, but he is a LOT cheaper than going into the shop. He stands behind his work. If you want his contact info, let me know. He lives off of Sotterly Rd.
