Accident at Wildewood

You're all F'in Mad...
You folks are waaaay off base with regards to roadside memorials.

There are easements along the state road, but the maintenance of the property still rests with the property owner. So calling SMECO is fruitless. Call Chaney if you're so worried about that particular one.

But there are much bigger eyesores than these memorials.

Overgrown and abandoned homes and trailers, some of which are falling down. Junk vehicles are scattered within eyesight of nearly every road in this county. For-Sale vehicles along our roads. Illegal signs populate our roadsides as well. Some dummy is selling "school bus shelters," then renting sign space on them. A clear voilation of our zoning ordinance and sign regulations. Roadside memorials fall somewhere near the bottom on the eyesore list.

I'm all in favor of cleaning up our roadsides, but you folks should worry about true eyesores, and let these survivors have their peace.

Here's a learning experience for you:

Grown up response: "I thought they were the same. I guess you learn something new everyday."

Compare that to your: "I'm right, why are you guys all so mean, waaaah!"

If I were out there in the wee hours of the night tearing them down, then I'd be messing with their peace. I've only stated my opinion of the practice. Do I not have a right to that? At least I'm not breaking the law by having an opinion.

This has certainly been an interesting read. My only issue with roadside memorials are those that draw one's attention from the act of driving. Small unobtrusive memorials that do not catch one's attention are not a problem. Those that, by their nature, draw your attention off the road are a safety concern for me because if it caught my attention it might just catch the attention of another driver resulting in them missing vital visual input that could prevent an accident.

Exactly! I particularly find the field across from Best Buys, etc. with it's plastic bag decorations the biggest eysore around. Oh, and then there's the monthly Kmart sale signs that sprout up all over.

Big Lots has a section of "Hawaiian" party stuff. And wouldn't you know, they have light-up pink flamingo's AND palm trees. I sooooooo wanted to get a pink flamingo for the yard. How tacky would that be?!?! :lmao:
