Aldi's parking lot

I typically do with my Chevy Suburban but I took my mom to Aldi's on Friday and that parking lot is so horridly designed it does not allow for much of any kind of maneuvering. :boo:

I had a minor panic attack when we came around the corner and realized there was no exit. Fortunately there was one skinny little space toward the back that we could pull into. But that moment of panic triggered my flight response and set the tone for my Aldi's experience.

We decided to stop by there on the day of the grand opening. Naturally the store was packed and the parking lot was a nightmare. It might get a little better once the newness wears off and the number of shoppers drops to normal levels, but still, the place is small and cramped (both inside and out), with a poor selection of mediocre quality goods. I doubt I'll ever shop there again.

I had the same thing happen. Having the double row closed off on one side means that both the flow in and the flow out are both trying to navigate the tight corners and then your throw in those trying to back in with the others trying to position themselves to pull in all at the same time others are trying to back out made for a very stressful event. We went on Friday afternoon the day after the grand opening and I considered the flow of shoppers to be what I'd expect to see normally on any given day. It was a mess.

Ahhhh! So it was you that left the tire ruts in the freshly seeded dirt at the end of the lot!

Thats neat, does it recognize lines or can it park like a computerized jerk at times?

Think it soley uses the prox sensor returns to position itself between the two cars. The lane marking stuff is only used for the Lane Assist when driving forward. Where it can actually move the wheel to stay in lane, and that camera is up by the rearview mirror. Proximity sensors are down at bumper height. When you are self parking, it gives you warning beeps and a graphic on the panel to tell you which sensor is tripping, with a change in color and tone to indicate how close you are.

Doesn't anyone here back into parking spots? This has become a common practice of mine, as the spaces are all getting smaller and smaller.

When did that become the rage?? See it all the time now, folks backing up, going forward, straightening up, backing again, pulling forward, finally backing into the spot. Maybe I am the only one noticing this but its a pain in the azz watching someone take 3 minutes to park in most cases, (tho some can do it quickly). Is it because newer cars have cameras when in reverse and people just have to use them? Is it that hard to back out of a parking spot? Probably should have put this in another thread. A silly annoyance but I see it all the time now, where a few years ago it wasn't that often.

I generally only frequent stores that have pull through parking spaces available. I'll park in the lower 40 if there aren't any such spaces closer. Leonardtown CVS is a great parking lot. These types of lots are easier to back into a spot, than pull in and have to back out.

PE, I drive a work van with sliding doors, so access to storage hasn't been a problem for me.

Sunday I went to Aldi's on the mission to see if in fact "their exclusive brands" could stand up to the actual name brand product & save me some money. I bought items that I normally pack in the kids lunch boxes Goldfish (Aldi's version is penguins) Fig Newtons (Aldi's has fig bars) & Ritz Crackers (Aldi's has buttery rounds) w/ Jif peanut butter cup. Aldi's had the name brand sitting directly next to their "exclusive" brand. I saved .40 on the penguins, .80 cents on the fig bars, & $1 on the buttery rounds.

Last night when I went to pack their lunches for the following day all of the Aldi snacks still remained from that days lunch some partially eaten. The kids said the penguins were terrible, they tasted nothing like goldfish. Their version of ritz crackers crumbled into little pieces so they were unable to be dipped into the Jif cup like my son normally does w/ ritz. They both had taken bites out of the fig bars but said they were really dry and didn't taste like the ones I normally buy.

So unfortunately I actually cost myself more $ trying to save because now I have to go out and buy those things again :ohwell:
