So unfortunately I actually cost myself more $ trying to save because now I have to go out and buy those things again :ohwell:

This has been my experience as well. I love saving money as much as the next person, but not by buying stuff that sucks.

Now I'm a little nervous because I bought a few other things that were their brand (rice a roni, pasta, jelly, etc...)

I don't drink coffee but I did buy their brand k-cups and my oldest said it tasted good.

We got a big freezer pizza that was good and their K-Cups which were good as well. The $2.40 gallon of milk was just fine too. I wont be hitting Aldi's for much of my food shopping but for other staples like dried pasta, cans of beans, and other items that have a narrow value band I don't think it is bad so far. It wont supplant hitting a larger grocery store but it can serve a purpose for some items.

I can see stopping at any food store (Aldi's too)if they have a product you like that you can't buy anywhere else. Otherwise who has the time or patience to go into a store to save a couple bucks when you can pick it up where you regularly shop. What's your time worth and what level of aggravation are you willing to endure for a lousy couple of bucks?

I carpooled for a brief time years ago with a guy that would drive past a gas station to make a Uturn a 1/4 mile further down the road to go back to a gas station selling gas 4 cents cheaper on the opposite side of the road....drove me crazy, but if it works for others, have at it....

The main thing is that it is the only place on the north bound side. That alone is worth stopping for a can of CMS and a pack of chicken breasts.

Sunday I went to Aldi's on the mission to see if in fact "their exclusive brands" could stand up to the actual name brand product & save me some money. I bought items that I normally pack in the kids lunch boxes Goldfish (Aldi's version is penguins) Fig Newtons (Aldi's has fig bars) & Ritz Crackers (Aldi's has buttery rounds) w/ Jif peanut butter cup. Aldi's had the name brand sitting directly next to their "exclusive" brand. I saved .40 on the penguins, .80 cents on the fig bars, & $1 on the buttery rounds.

Last night when I went to pack their lunches for the following day all of the Aldi snacks still remained from that days lunch some partially eaten. The kids said the penguins were terrible, they tasted nothing like goldfish. Their version of ritz crackers crumbled into little pieces so they were unable to be dipped into the Jif cup like my son normally does w/ ritz. They both had taken bites out of the fig bars but said they were really dry and didn't taste like the ones I normally buy.

So unfortunately I actually cost myself more $ trying to save because now I have to go out and buy those things again :ohwell:

The penguins are not an aldi exclusive thing, Walmart also sells them. Your son is right, they are not as good as goldfish. I recently bought a pack at Walmart and was sad.

You want to bet me that I will never set foot in that place?

Sure. How much? And how long before I can expect you to pay up?

I'm sorry. In the OP, did you just drive around the parking lot and not go in the store? Seems foolish to just go into the parking lot and not go in.

Oh... you are saying that you will never go in that store AGAIN... right?

I would still take that bet... LOL

We live in the woods, and the dogs love to back at deer passing through. Watching something the other night, Aldi commercial is on, as soon as the buck follows the lady out the door, the smallest dog stand up on the couch and gave that deer what for. Which of course prompted the middle and larger dogs to chime in with him.

Same with the ground beef...its not 80/20 its 70/30 sorry but that is just foul! :dead:

Ok I finally made it to our new Aldi and they must have been out or you didn't see it, but today they had 80/20/ 90/10, and 93/7, I didn't see any 70/30.

Bought a pack of the 93/7.

The SMIBs that cant figure out the carts is pretty funny, the manager is giving people quarters, I thought that was very nice of him.

I figured the grocery carts would be a problem for locals. lol

When did that become the rage?? See it all the time now, folks backing up, going forward, straightening up, backing again, pulling forward, finally backing into the spot. Maybe I am the only one noticing this but its a pain in the azz watching someone take 3 minutes to park in most cases, (tho some can do it quickly). Is it because newer cars have cameras when in reverse and people just have to use them? Is it that hard to back out of a parking spot? Probably should have put this in another thread. A silly annoyance but I see it all the time now, where a few years ago it wasn't that often.

I've been wondering about that too. I see it all the time. Not sure why they do it. It takes twice as long doing that than pulling in and backing out when leaving. So, those of you who do back in - can you explain why? I don't get it.

I can only speak for myself. I drive a van. By the time you get a van backed out of a mini-size parking spot far enough to see if it's clear, you're already out of the parking space and may as well continue.

I use "pull through" spaces when available. If I can back into a space without drastically impeding traffic flow, I do. It doesn't take me any longer to back into a space than it does most people to pull into a similar space.

Also note, if you blow your horn, parking the van generally takes 5x as long as necessary.

It only takes twice as long if you don't know what you are doing. I like a quick getaway. Backing out, surround by the usual hulking SUVs I'm not seeing what is out there walking/driving towards me. Backing in, I have a clear view of all that foot and vehicle traffic.
