They charge for the carts here as well - first time I've seen that in Fl outside of an airport.

Went in to check out the store. Parking lot isn't that bad
Store is smaller than I expected, Couldn't shop there. I'm shopping for two and I don't eat al that much prepackaged or canned food.

Just got back from Aldis. Someone else noted people parking in the new pass-thru lanes. When I was there, car after car after car pulled directly into those slots completely ignoring the 'do not enter' sign. That new area needs to be painted with red stripes or something. Oh.... i know.... a toll gate that only opens from the other side using the quarter from the shopping cart. Worst parking lot ever.

I still think Aldis is a great deal on staples. Milk and eggs cheaper than anywhere else. Campari tomatoes normally sell for $5 in giant, Aldi is $1.39. My bill today was about $12, would have been closer to $20-25 anywhere else.

Not for 5$ ,it's price by the pound .

Beg to differ... it's $5 per container vs $1.39 per container. Not sold by the pound. I have the receipts.

Today Giant just happened to have them on sale, $2.99 per container. Again, not by the pound.

Agreed. Coffee, cheese and bread at great prices as well.

One of our staples is - frozen pizzas. With a proviso - we add our own toppings and cheese. The frozen stuff we buy serves largely as prepared bread with sauce and a little cheese. We add bacon, pepperoni, sauteed onions and peppers, sausage - and extra shredded mozzarella. Much cheaper than buying it otherwise. We let the kids choose their own pizzas.

Most stores offer a 12 inch pizza for just around a dollar. Aldi's is the same price, but the pizza is around 16 inch.

so far I'm pretty happy with it. Saved a ton on snacky foods for a birthday party and the quality was on par with better known brands. Lots of stuff for the kids lunches at decent prices too, like apple sauce and fruit cups. 2 biggest draws for me are the produce (I buy a LOT of apples to bring to work) and there are some more "ethnic" foods that I love that I haven't found elsewhere. They had german pastries and baklava that were decent that I haven't seen elsewhere.

don't think they will ever replace my normal grocery store runs but definitely will be a nice addition. Plus, being able to stop for a gallon of milk on the way home without crossing 235 in rush hour is a BIG bonus.

The price of milk and eggs keeps me going there. Lots of really good values to be found, and the brands they carry are some of the best 'no added crap ingredients' around.

Tonight I wanted stroganoff, needed some steak. Aldi has blister pac steaks, and I usually steer clear of those. But since it was just an ingredient in the stroganoff, I got a top round. Seasoned it, grilled it to a perfect rare on the grill, covered it with noodles. Gotta say, that was the best piece of steak I have had in a very long time. It was delicious. No doubt I will use their steaks again, and it's cheaper than meat in the other stores.

While I was there I got a package of Ghiardelli brownie mix for dirt cheap. Brownies and a tall glass of milk for desert later.

Their Organic Hot Salsa is probably my favorite salsa out of a jar. I go though that stuff like mad.

Is the lack of meats, produce, etc maybe because they are new? I've never been in one.

Their main business is a limited selection of house brand non-perishable grocery items. Often their product is made by name brand manufacturers.

Anyone bought anything for Mexican dishes there? Taco seasoning, shells, refried/black beans, etc? I love refried beans ( I know those are not good for you) and I've never bought any other brand other than the El Paso ones.

:howdy:

I haven't tried the hard shells yet, but I buy their flour tortillas on a regular basis. I've bought the hard shells, they just haven't been used yet. Obviously they're nothing like what I could get in TX or CA but they're just as good as what I've had from other grocery chains around here. Same goes for their black beans, refried beans, and taco seasonings. I really wish they carried the low sodium version, but in a pinch it'll do. I enjoy their "rotel" stuff too. But then again I'm the queen of off-brand shopping  It all tastes the same to me. In fact most of it is distributed by the name-brand manufacturers like officeguy said.

Got the hard shells. As good as the name brands. Best if you put them in an oven and bake them a few minutes to crisp them up.

Thanks, I'm making an enchilada casserole type thing tonight. I can do some store brands but some, I can tell the difference. I can use my bank Visa check/debit card there right?

Debit is fine. I overheard the manager saying there are testing the new chip type credit cards.

So I bought the taco seasoning, soft shells, refried beans and black beans. All were great. I'm pretty sure the beans were cheaper there than anywhere.
