Am I the only one not over reacting?

WEll it is -but at the same time - it is set up for helping the business owners to pay that money out to the employees, and those were going to be credited back to the employers in the forms of dollar for dollar tax credits or some other way. My brain is cramping today, I've had a lot going on. But POTUS is working with Congress to try and shore up the SBOs where no administration ever has in the past.

I didn't know what type of business SOMD was - I know an employer who is incorporated as an LLC, I think and these things will help them, they think.

Hank, are you an independent contractor?

Once it's gone, it's gone.

ALL small businesses will be affected by this and many will close permanently. Only large corporations can sustain indefinite closure.

Great job, government!

We're going to try and hang in there but it's not looking good. If they don't lift this lockdown soon our economy will be permanently destroyed and there will be no coming back for America. That's what people don't seem to understand.
I am truly sorry Vrai. But now it makes sense why you were so :jameo: about the shutdowns and quarantines.

You know, I'm probably the only one saying this but --
I go to the Johns Hopkins dashboard almost daily - it's the only source of worldwide OFFICIAL data I know of -

And I am thinking - if they filled all this in with JUST DATA FROM THE REGULAR FLU - what would it look like?
Would we be terrified then?

The forums have always been a loss leader and labor of love. More content and a community feature rather than an income generator.

The banners you see advertising local businesses has always been our bread and butter, along with the classifieds. Then Facebook, and Google, and Amazon, and Zillow, and Craigslist, and Indeed, and the other big tech companies came along and now small business in all industries are on the ropes.

Even @frequentflier - before all she had to worry about was PetSmart; now she has Amazon and Chewy and a dozen other giants trying to run her off. We try to offer something that the anonymous .coms can't, but people don't seem to care. This is what they want now.

I'm kind of pissing and moaning about it, but not really. It's the world we live in and now our government pretty much dealt the death blow in its handling of this virus crap. People like me and FF aren't big enough political donators and we don't have elite lobbyists pleading our case. The government is not going to bail us out like they will the big corporations (who can afford to take temporary losses).

And then, to top it off, they wiped out our retirement accounts.

But every loss is an opportunity to regroup and reinvent. :yay:

We'll see what happens in the next month or so....

I just started a thread about closing the dog wash, cutting hours, and curb side pick up only. It is going to kill all other sales- people won't be buying leashes and collars and toys and beds over the phone. In addition, many people have been panic buying and wiping out the food. I am ordering (and will pay for) the food to replace it and it may sit on the shelves for months because people have stock piled it.
There is absolutely no balance.
My plans to close my store at the end of the year may come sooner.

It's not just me - we're all (all small businesses) in the same boat. Even the restaurants can't hang on indefinitely doing carryout only, and the servers they had to lay off definitely can't just cool their heels.

Look for our world to emerge from this - if we ever do - dramatically changed. I don't think people really understand that. They think this is just a lark. A vacation.

I am not someone that cries but I have shed tears over this. The uncertainty of all of this makes me anxious and sad.

I feel ya :huggy: I have been stressed and anxious since they announced it and haven't had a decent night's sleep in a week.

But you know what? You and me, we's smart. We have started over before and we're even older and wiser now. We are entrepreneurs. We'll lick our wounds and then get a plan together. :yay:

I thought of that too. How are they going to finish their grade or graduate?
My daughter is supposed to graduate high school this year. It should be interesting. I heard that one of the university s was thinking of doing their graduation online, which I don’t see how that would work.

I recently attended a large university graduation and believe it can be done online.

The entire graduation ceremony is based on speeches. When it comes to the graduates, each group stands up as they call out the degree received. Nothing personal about it.

Since they're so inconsequential, why do parents to go them and beam with pride?

Ok thanks I thought they went up on stage and got their diplomas like the high schools do. Interesting.

That was mine too, the only personal part to it was for the bullshit honary degrees, only the PhD, MD, and JD recipients had their names read. I skipped my MS graduation since my parents seemed ok with not going to it.

CSM had a ceremony similar to a HS Graduation when my daughter received her AA. My son wasn't interested in going to his HS graduation, he just wanted to get the hell out and earn some real money.
