What's also going to hurt local businesses is that their customers are out of work and can't afford to patronize them. When you're worried about how to keep a roof over your head, Jerry's seafood isn't a consideration.

Leave it to government to make the cure worse than the disease.
Jerry's did $2500 worth of carry out last night (4-8pm) so some people aren't too worried.

yep..huge increase. It seems like they want to recoup every penny paid out within a very short period afterward.. Unemployment benefits can cause a crippling impact to the business they were claimed against, farther downstream.
Never really understood, unenjoyment insurance/benefit. So when an employee, is unemployed through no fault of their own, the business is still on the hook, for, basically, continuing to pay them a wage, through a third party, albeit somewhat reduced, until what was paid out to said employee is fully recovered. Sounds like a punishment, a fine, to the business owner for daring to let an employee go. Thinking there should be a withholding from the employee' pay for this. Ya know, kinda like a forced saving account, that can only be drawn upon when employment is lost. Spreading the pain so to speak.

did you get some earnest money for the equipment
Of course. We typically get 40-50% up front. Typical systems we're shipping these days are between 300-400K each. But we are in the hole for a large chunk of change until the balance is received.

The Lighthouse Inn in Solomons has been selling 80/20 ground beef in 10 pound rolls for $50 and boneless, skinless chicken breast at $55 for 10 pounds. That is $5 and $5.50 a pound! Uncooked crab cake balls for $10 a piece. And they have quickly sold out. :banghead:

I stopped at Giant Wednesday night for a couple of things. Fresh veggies, fruit, and milk. :yay: Wanted some saltine crackers and tater tots but they were completely out but neither are essentials. I keep my fridge, freezer, and pantry well stocked so pretty much a non-issue for me.

Since stores are out of toilet paper and have minimal stocks of bread, milk, soup, frozen food and eggs, what would be the "go to" items for hoarders if we were to have a blizzard now?

Also, what a lot of people don't realize is that when someone collects unemployment, this small business will likely see a huge increase in their rates for the next two years.
True, but when your employer has to lay off - there's no choice. :ohwell:

Belks closed yesterday too for a couple of weeks. Jerry's Place is on the other side of the bridge near a tire store or something? They don't mean for good though right? I've read that they have really good food.
Not far from my house - or my work! :yay:

I'm going to go out on a limb here and speculate that some rules like the above may be suspended for this case. It really is unprecedented and unforeseen that the entire country shuts down.

What makes it especially bad is that it's open-ended right now (I expect school closures to be extended another two weeks. The upside to that is that it will give people another reason to bitch about teachers).

@frequentflier, @vraiblonde and all other small business owners here:
I was able to sit in on a nationwide phone call this afternoon with the POTUS to Small Business Owners with the head of the SBA, and I think the Secretary of Labor (?) Anyway it was off the record, but was being recorded, so possibly there is a transcript of the call somewhere. It only lasted about 10-15 minutes total. Trump expressed his and his administrations' total support of small business owners.

Go to the White House website or the SBA website for Maryland and check out ALL KINDS of relief for small business owners. Yes, it will be a hardship, but there is a LOT of extra help this time around. Not just SBA loans - even some SBA loan forgiveness, there will be dollar for dollar tax credits for business owners - a LOT of help. Per POTUS and my own employers - NO OTHER adminstration has supported the SBOs like this one has.

I hope you can find some relief through the SBA. :huggy:

Batteries.

Just for no freaking reason - except for "because".
