I think you found the right place to advertise! :yay:

I'm just kidding you really... NXT is pretty good stuff. But I prefer a Duragloss or a Zaino. I use Duragloss now. Prior to that, Zymol. There's something about the mass merchandised products versus those sold only through professionals and specialty businesses.

Currently have a sample of Wheel Wax which is supposed to decrease the brake dust problem that creates black wheels. Mine rarely get that dirty. But it would be nice to hit them with a hose and knock off all the brake dust.

Meguiars does have some nice detailing tools. (Or is that Mother's?) I'm going to add some of their stuff when I wear out what I'm using now.

Mine is so dirty on the outside that Minivan Jabba told me I needed to wash it. I don't know if I wanna laugh or cry.

NXT is fine. Kinda high maintenance though to keep it looking up to snuff. Zaino appears to be a fine product line and I am thinking about trying it out come spring after I clay/clean/polish. My only issue with Zaino is there polishes tend to do more filling and hiding than polishing. But prep work with eguiar's polishes and using Zaino as an LSP might be a good way to go. Can't comment on Duragloss. Have not looked into it. I participate in several online forums regarding detailing and the Duragloss name doesn't seem to pop up enough to spark my interest. Zymol worked OK for me but seemed to lose it's bling pretty quickly. At least the consumer versions did.

As I am a detailing enthusiast (hobbiest) I tend to experiment alot with different combinations of waxes, sealants and pure polishes to see what klind of results I get. I am sure after some time I will settle on some particualr combination. Zaino is looking pretty good as a base coat for me but I would top it with something a little more sacrificial. I have seen a couple of vehicles with color similar to mine with ZAINO. Looks good. Definately peaked my interest.

For my wheels, I recently tried Meguiar's NXT Metal Polysh (don't ask me why they spell it that way). Here is a link to a thread at MOL where I discussed it and posted some pics. This stuff has synthetic polymers added for protection but I took it a step further as the thread explains. I find with the Synthetic Polymers I can usually wash my brake dust off with normall car wash soap and water during a wash. And I can use a standard QDer to hit it in between washes. Works well for me.

Meguiar's detailing tools do the trick for me. I buy them not so much because they will outperform anybody else's but there product support is pretty good. I like someone who backs up their product.

Food is good. I like food.

Setting something up is not outta the question. I am a little backed up right now. have 4 vehicles in the line up to piddle with. If you are serious, please define bad leg. I mean, would it be possible to have you sit in say a roll around desk chair and do some stuff at around waist level? Can you do any interior work? I usually try to work "with" people as it makes it fun, meet lots of great folks and they usually learn a thing or 2. If you can't help at all then it's not outta the question but I "may" ask for a little bit of money depending on what work the vehicle needs.

Jeff,

What would you suggest to remove vinyl decals from painted surfaces on your vehicle?

I will not advise as I have not done this. I will do a little looking into it for you and will post the links to what I find.

I have removed the chrome covered platic lettering from my tailgate with great success. But that is a different animal. I want to say I have seen people use a hairdryer on high with some added technic.

Looking at it now for you

Editing here with a few thoughts I am stumbling accross as I go.:
Per the following post there is the possibility of ghosting. In other words the paint under the graphics may be in better condition than the rest of the finish. It would depend on how old the vehicle is. Worth thinking about.

The following thread touches on the subject and several folks included in t he discussion are folks I converse with regularly and have alot of respect for. The hairdryer idea is discussed on page 2 of the thread.

those should give you a couple of ideas.

When I get to work tonight, if I remeber I'll try to find some step by step instructions with pics. Knowing someof the other folks on the Meguiar's Forum I bet someone has pics up of them doing this.

BTW, what kind of Vinyl Graphics are you refering to? That might effect the removal process. How Big? How old etc?

They are 2-inch letters on the tailgate of a truck that is 3 years old. Part of them came off in the car wash and now it looks silly. Either I can replace 2 of the letters for it to look right or just take the letters off.

I don't think ghosting will be a problem. I do not have that now with the missing letters.

Ok, gives me a little something to work with. Hopefully I'll have some time tonight to research from work. I hope to point you toward something you might feel "comfortable" doing. Hope So anyway.

I had great success taking my chrome covered plastic lettering. It was my first time. Took me about 1/2 hour to do four very large emblems. The biggest thing was getting over the intial fear of boogaring something up. I actually had to get behind each decal with dental floss and work it up and saw in a saw like motion.

I think the hairdryer thing looks like a good idea. Possibly park it in the sun for a few hours to get it reasonably warm. Take the hairdryer and start at a corner. warm it up and start gently peeling. I bet it will work fine and as the decals are already hosed, it's very unlikely you will hurt anything. Just heat it up enough that the stickers start coming off. Don't keep heating it unless they don't want to come of.

The heat from the hairdryer is not going to be hot enough to hurt anything. I see on the threads I posted that fellow used a heat gun. Trust me those things get a whole lot hotter than the hairdryer.

Looks to me like the work will be easy. Getting your confidence up enough to tackle it will be your biggest task. Just think of it this way. It's yours, it needs to be done. And some dude you don't even know is telling you to go for it. :lmao:

hehe. Seriously though. It looks like a no brainer

Good Luck. I'll still poke around on the subject for you. Pics of some other nut doing it would likely be pretty helpful.

Well. Sorry, but I tried to find some stuff that would add to what's already been discussed but could not seem to find anything useful.

Just about everything I did stumble into pointed toward the hair dryer idea.

Good luck with it.

Use a hair dryer to heat them up and then peel them off.

Then use rubbing alcohol or Goo-Gone to get the residue off.
