I can't leave my car 2-3 days...

Hehe, I hear ya. I usually work on the cars "with" the owners. We hit it hard the first day then they come back for just a couple hours for 2 days after that. That lets the sealants cure over night. The 3rd day we usually glaze and put on the WAX. By this time the thing is usually gleaming.

I just enjoy it. I am starting to get away from doing daily drivers and looking to get more into show cars, hod rods and such. I would not say I am a know it all about this stuff, just enthusiastic

My vehicle looks purdy and I don't spend 2-3 days on it. I don't think I've washed it since we bought it.

There are 2 big problems with keeping a flawless car.
1. People love to touch it. Folks come up offering advice on how they do things. Then they touch it. Right then I know they have absolutely no idea what they are saying because anybody who knows what they are doing would not have walked up and touched my truck.

2. People will walk up get real close and spend several minutes looking for any little flaw. Usually they find something. They'll point at the spot. And it will fly away. :lmao:

Great. I just enjoy taking older cars and trying to bring the paint finish back up to a like new condition when I can.

That's right. You haven't washed it.

In the past I have just used regular old pastey turtle wax. I got some new Meguire's liquid stuff I'm gonna use the next time I get around to it. Although I don't really see the need to wax a vehicle more than twice a year unless you live in harsh conditions.

Turtle Wax is good stuff as well. IMO, just about any wax you buy off the shelf nowadays is probably a decent product if applied properly. I am into Meguiar's, Some like ZAINO, Zymol etc. I guess alot of it comes down to what you have used before and whether or not you had a good enough experience with it to use it again.

I have tried several product lines. I settled on Meguiar's not so much because I thought they were the best or better than anybody else. But after using their stuff I stumbled into their website and found they had great customer support. 800#s to answer questions and a great online forum where somewhere over 5,000 folks kick ideas around. So I go for their stuff, for the most part, because of the support behind the products. I had a couple of fancy towels I bought to remove wax with. I washed them with bleach. Meguiar's tells you right on the instructions not to do that. Well, for me, white towels get wash with bleach. So, after doing this the towels frizzed up real bad. I called Meguiar's and the first thing the guy asked me was did I wash with bleach. I said Yes, He said "Don' do that"
I told him I fouled up "2"towels. 3 days later I received "4" brand new towels with a polite card reminding me not to use bleach. I have had several similar experiences and the support was similar each time. So I like Meguiar's for this reason.

As for only waxing 2x a year. That works for some. I am just one of those folks who likes that "just waxed" look and I am kind of into it as a hobby. So I don't mind getting outside every few weeks and playing around. Plus I have all the fancy stuff to work with so it's a little less time consuming for me to do as compared to most people. I can usually put wax on, wait 10-15 for the haze, then remove. All in about 50 minutes. So I don't mind that much.

I recently got bitten by the detailing bug. Was looking to find some like minded folks in the area to kick ideas around a little. Also maybe keep ourselves abreast of who has good deals/sales on what stuff. And who knows, maybe get together to apply some "shine".
You obviously don't have kids.

I worked on a '97 Accura today for a fellow I met a few weeks ago. I invited him over and we started about 7:30 this morning. He had alot of serious scratches that need to be corrected. By about 10:30 I kept noticing he would keep standing back from the car saying things like "Wow!" or "Man!".

I guess that's the part I enjoy the most. I like to fiddle on folks cars that have had them a few years, and need a little TLC. I like to "try" to bring them back, as best I can, to a like new condition. Usually with about 10-12 hours of work, I find, this to usually be doable. I dunno, I find it rewarding. I like to watch their eyes the first time we pull it into the sun. I also get a kick out of it when I watch them pull out of my driveway and all of the sudden that left arm gets hung straight out the window. I guess going for those "cool points".
