Again IMHO, it doesn't matter where you pick. The reason folks say don't move here or there is because there is section 8 (assisted living) apartments/homes in that area. The thing is there is section 8 in every apartment complex. Truth. Rental properties cannot discriminate.
I've been to that complex visiting a friend. That would be uber close to the back gate at Pax (limited hours). The only problem I'd see is the kids/brats. They come out and play after school in the middle of the complex street, so you need to take it easy on your lead foot in the neighborhood. And keep your bike and other valuables out of your little yard so little sticky fingers aren't tempted. As long as you aren't working a night shift and trying to sleep during the day when they are out playing - it shouldn't be an issue. Oh I do see another problem - there's a lot of darn stairs! But as long as you are healthy that shouldn't be a problem.
Again, I would suggest not signing a long term lease, because odds are you will find something you like better later, no matter where you move now. I know I did. Some of your best deals will be rentals of homes/townhomes in this area. If not outright condo/townhome purchase.
