Bad economy

Personally, I'm not feeling it. But the scuttlebutt is that the economy is so poor that people are desperate, and high gas prices are causing people to lose their homes.

So tell us your tale of woe. How has the economic downturn caused you to suffer?

Seriously, all of you who insist that times are terrible and poverty is rampant because of Bush's policies, please share with us just how exactly you have been affected.

:snort: Here come the stories about "A friend of mine"

1. I have to park the camper @ the campgrounds again this year instead of toting it back and forth w/ the diesel truck.

2. I'm putting off coloring my hair @ Scalped.

3. My oldest is going every other week to Tae Kwon Do camp instead of every week for the summer. But still has a summer camp program going on the other weeks - just a tad less expensive.

4. I'm not doing dinner out every weekend.

Seriously, it's tight, but we're good. :yay: I haven't given up everything, but we have given up some. If it gets worse, we tighten the belt a little more. This too shall pass.

True that prices have gone up on everything because of the rise in gas prices, but I just don't travel as much as I used to. Other than the gas pumps, I see quite an increase in grocery prices. Not so much that it hurts. Just feels like the gas prices are like the energizer bunny, they keep going, and going, and going........

:nomoney:

I am dumping over $600 a month in fuel just back and forth to work. I parked the big truck because that only gets like 6 MPG.

Other than that not much has changed

I have a new car (that uses less gas), and a new laptop. :yay:

Only time I go to the races now is if I get media credentials for the race. If not, I just can't afford to go with other expenses I have. :nomoney:

I've got more money than ever, but Maryland is also overtaxing me and trying to steal any money they can. All my financial problems are the fault of the socialists in Annapolis.

Now THAT is suffering! We should hold a fundraiser for you because nobody should have to live like that. :huggy:

Seriously, there's all this talk about how terrible everything is, and there are enough of us on here that someone should have a story about some calamity in their life because of poor economy and high gas prices (that that damn George Bush should do something about instead of rolling around in our money :burning:lol)

It's the oil companies and the socialists in Annapolis that are robbing me. :nomoney:

I've seen considerable negative effects on the trucking industry, the contruction industry including the blue collar workers such as builders, plumbers, landscapers, material suppliers, laborers, etc. And I believe the worst is yet to come and will show itself once the businesses that count on heavy tourism traffic to make enough money to last the year don't get the amount of business they need to survive.

I'm definitely combining errands to save gas and I've seen a big jump in the grocery bill. We don't get to go out to dinner or lunch as often on the weekends. Things are tight, but we have and can live tighter if necessary.
It is making us turn down some travel opportunities.

I'll agree with the annapolis part. But I have stock in oil companies via my 401K. According to my last statement, they're doing exactly what they are supposed to, turn a profit.

well, aside from my oil bill going from about 150 a month (2 years ago) to closer to 250 a month and my gas (car) going from about 120 a month to 160 a month and my property tax going up 200 a month (from 2007 to 2008) nothing has changed at all =)

after all, whats an extra 340 +/- a month.

=/

I believe you forgot to add in the extra you are now paying for the same typical groceries you have always purchased. I know I've noticed a considerable increase in money spent even though I'm getting the same stuff I always get.

true .... though I never payed too much attention to grocery prices, and ever since I discovered nicks of clinton, I've been paying way less anyway.

We don't get to go out to dinner or lunch as often on the weekends.

From what I've noticed, it's cheaper to get a dollar menu cheeseburger and fry at McDonalds than it is to get a thing of cheese. Grocery prices are horrible. It costs me $150/month in groceries just for myself, and I only buy what's on sale. I remember it used to cost my Dad $150/month in groceries to feed all 4 of us. Those days are long gone.

Good thing I work by Nick's. Meat and deli prices there are reasonable, and they're good. :yum:
