I understand pretty damn well about the development of children. I’ve raised a few to adulthood and I know that by the time they are in their teens they know what is right and wrong. If you have kids you would know this too. You would also know that they press the boundaries of acceptability, that they try to manipulate others, and that their environment is only a part of what it is that they become. I know that to correct inappropriate behavior there must be consequences for them to suffer when they step over the bounds. And if you would set aside your behemoth ego you would see that I said nothing about discarding them like trash. I said it would be dependent upon the crime they committed as to whether they should have the option of the camps.
Right, if you say so sport. I guess you’re an expert on Archie Bunker too. Your ego has driven you to labeling and name-calling simply because I don’t agree with your concept. It is a concept that has been tried before with less than desirable results. You choose not to listen to experience and think you know what is best. With no adequate rebuttal you slither to a lower level that shows your character now doesn’t it?
In a previous response I made I said I understood that part of it, but I also know that some of these kids will scam their way through the boot camp. What is the recourse should they fail, back to a normal correctional facility, thus they are motivated to comply with the program if they don’t want to go back, right? That doesn’t mean that they have changed at the root, I suspect that a few might, though I suspect that more won’t because they have already been programmed and know what works for them. What portion, who knows because they don’t seem to have the data for that as the .pdf file you attached concluded.
Well that is your opinion and while in the program it seems that they do respond better based on the study, but without the follow on data no one knows the true results as to the camps effectiveness. And there are other ways to get them out of the cesspool without hampering the military with the task. Send them to Job Corps, the Peace Corps, Hell send them to Jimmy Carter and his Homes for Humanity program all which can teach them a trade and lead to a better life. For the kids that show potential they could give them grants for higher or technical education that would not only provide training in a training environment but it would also remove them from the environment that you believe resulted in their incarceration. If one only opens their eyes they could see that there are other paths to take without placing the burden on the military, which does not want or need the burden of another social experiment.
