I just bought a little Toyato Scion XB. It is much more comforatble to ride in than the Caliber. We rented one of those for a week. The XB has lots of room. A little car with big heart. The gas milage is pretty good also. My average is 29.2 MPH. Depends on how you drive.

Looked at Mazda, Toyota's and came to the conclusion I really liked the Ford Fusion.
It is based on the Mazda 6 frame and is "the first digitally designed car". Whatever that means.
Because of my job I checked on the reliability - it is highly rated, gets good mileage with the 6 cylinder and six speed (28 mpg highway), top safety rating. I picked up the Lincoln variant and it has every doo dad you could want. Got a great deal, with only 10,000 miles on the odometer - love the ride.
You can get really good deals now.

I love my Focus.

I have a 2000 Focus that was purchased new. Now has 138000 miles on it and still runs great. I am proud to say that the wife has kept up with all of the maintenance and I expect that she will get well over 200000 miles on it. I think we average 30mpg with it.
Also have a 96 Miata that I purchased for $3500.five years ago with 75000 miles on it. Now has 123000 miles and still runs like a new car averaging 30-32 mpg.
The key is proper maintenance. Oil changes. change timing belts when scheduled, inflate tires properly(check weekly), rotate tires every other oil change, change all filters to include cabin filter on Focus, and clean engine compartment to reduce heat.

Well I think Ive sold the idea to the Mr.'s:yay: that I need a commuter car to get back and forth to work.
After going over websites and checking many things out, Im leaning toward the Toyota Corolla, 2009 gets 27 to 35mpg. Thats a shade better then Focus. You cant go wrong with a Toyota, have a Highlander 2005 that I just love, use to be big Subaru fan, had different Subaru's for like 19yrs, till I switched to a Highlander, needed something a bit bigger then the Forrester I had.
Dont thing I could ever switch back now after having the Highlander.

I ended up getting a 2009 Toyota Corolla, one week ago today already have 530 miles and Im averaging 33.2 mpg.:yay:

I still have my 96 Corolla, with 215,000 miles, it's the most reliable car you'll ever have. Never broke down on me once. And it still gets close to 30 mpg after all these years. It beat out the Volkswagon Beetle as the top selling car of all time.

I had a 82 bronco full size with the 302 cid make it 323,000 before it ever broke down on me.

Except it's BRIGHT yellow, with a black stripe and a convertible top.

It's our first Mercedes!

What happened to that big ole calculation of yours that led you to the conclusion that it was cheaper to drive what you've already got?

It's HER car, not mine.

AND we have to wait at LEAST a year for ours to get here. So we'll go almost 2 years without any type of car payment..
