Bible contradictions?

Slotted, this is a fact that is hard to miss. The sign over your av indicates you are a skeptic. What else are you skeptical about? Or is it just Christians?

Do you feel this way about all religions? How about Buddhism or Islam or even Hare Krishna?

Are you a political skeptic? (I'd like to think I am!)

How about science? Do you question the reported research of all scientists or just those that don't agree with your particular views right now?

I'm a skeptic with pretty much anything. I mainly have to deal with christians living in a western christian society, hence I'm debating christianity.

I don't perticularly have a problem with science since they state things as theories and seek to try and prove the theory.

Not quite the same confusion, eh? You could hear a voice and not understand it. You really need to check more than one version. The King James is poetic, and because of that, less understandable. Also, knowledge of ancient Aramaic, Hebrew, and Greek has increased, so the translations are better. The less accurate areas of the King James, i.e., the verses you quoted and some others like the one that translates "wine skins" as "bottles". None of the confusing passages take anything away from the central fact of the life, death, and resurrection of Y'shua, Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah.

I wasn't there when the bible was written, I don't know what they meant when they wrote it, and most aren't even fascimiles of the original document, so how are we to contrive meaning from it? I don't have divine powers to translate, nor do I have any powers to read the minds of people dead for two thousand years. I don't want anyone to tell me what they THINK it means, they don't know anymore then I do, unless they have supernatural powers.


Most churches and churchgoers beleive most sins can be forgiven, throw a few hail marys.. crawl on your knees.. a few rote prayers.. walla, I'm clean again. THAT's what I meant!!

You just captured (again) what I was trying to say before ... some people who claim to be good christians and servants of God do a fergie-poor job of showing it. If being a Christian means being unaccepting of other cultures and beliefs and general inquisitiveness as portrayed on this board at times, I want no part of it.

Actually, I'm not remotely offended by the fact you have different beliefs other than my own. In fact, there have been several times during this thread that you have belittled the thoughts of others, and I do find that offensive. Furthermore, while doing, you pass off your thoughts as being of such great wisdom, when in fact they demonstrate how little you indeed know. You convoluted logic is what bugs me most of all. Nevertheless, you are right that I shouldn't let these things bother me so much that I resort to being rude to others, but I am truly a sinful human being with faults. I do apologize.

Quit lumping Bob and I together in this. Just b/c two people happen to see the same view doesn't mean they are 1) in cahoots; 2) wrong; or 3) right. It's called 'acceptance' .
