Biden administration struggles to fix ailing supply chain

We use literally tons of printer paper a year and several tons of other types of paper each day and trust me, it is a struggle to keep our warehouse stocked. A lot of print companies closed during the shutdown, which closed a lot of paper mills and so forth. Well, the mills have the raw materials, but not enough employees, from entry level floor sweepers to the OTR drivers to meet demand.

Now, if this damned moron in the WH follows through with the mandatory trucker vaccinations, look for paper to be harder to get since a lot of mills are in Canada,
My brother is a VP for Fuji. He's told me of the issues they've had trying to get supplies to the retailers. Not pretty, but he's optimistic things are going to improve dramatically next q.

Ok am I misunderstanding things or is the claim being made that the CURRENT status of the pandemic causing supply chain issues - or is it demand RETURNING from pandemic causing supply chain issues - or is it claimed that this is consequences of the pandemic?

Once the SHOCK of things occurred during the pandemic - we found cleaning supplies, meat, toilet paper - after six months, it really wasn't a problem. Like, anywhere. You could buy pretty much, anything, anywhere. I couldn't get chlorine tablets anywhere, but that was a different problem. Ditto lumber at normal prices. Otherwise - ten to twelve months ago - no problem with anything. We got everything we needed last Christmas.

I don't see pandemic as the problem - either RETURNING from the pandemic - which is identical to a surge in the economy, something we're really NOT seeing - or as a shortage problem, because our country quickly remedied that.

I'm not blaming current conditions on the pandemic at all. I place the blame solely on piss poor management at the top levels impacting the way business is done. Like California rulings regarding "outdated" trucks and imposing unrealistic driver restrictions so that nothing gets offloaded and shipped. Shortage of truck drivers for multiple reasons.

See - THAT. That is what I've read, and I am not seeing backups at any port OTHER than the one in LA. So that is on California - alone.

The driver shortage (not specific to CA) is impacting deliveries country-wide. Because of the shipping container backups, there is also a severe lack of containers.
I was using the CA shipping problem as an example, not the end-all.

Th port in Baltimore is running at max capacity and even expanded operations, according to Larry at least.

My understanding more of a Transportation and Delivery Issue along with people not returning to JOBS in store or manufacturing

The raw materials exist workers to make the end product are in short supply

I've also read something ELSE along those lines just as disturbing - many of the job not being filled aren't because there are no applicants - but no QUALIFIED applicants. There just aren't enough people with the right qualifications. We lost people - and didn't get the right people to replace them.

This is going to happen when you decide to screw a large portion of your labor force with mandates - and find you lost people that will take YEARS to replace.

well, from now on, It ain't Christmas until we see commercials with gay men kissing, multi-racial couples with Chinese-Euro-African children wearing Yamakas, playing in the snow next to a brand new Honda electric truck with Billi Eyelish stacking firewood.

I would assume that advertiser's would put advertisements on TV for people who would use their product.
It appears that advertisers today believe that there are a lot of mixed marriages , as so many show mixed marriages in the advertisements.

Truck Driving takes some training ... what jobs are you talking ?
The person being interviewed did not say - and I got the impression he was talking about a survey of employers, so it means a lot of positions.

How did my remark come to be about truck drivers, again?

My gawd, your reading comprehension sucks.
I said light cream is in short supply, not out, and I also said I manage to find what I need. Did you miss that? Apparently. And if you were paying attention, the tanker backup was directed at the Chinese produced products, specifically Christmas lights. Of course light cream doesn't come from an ocean-going tanker, you idiot.
And I don't give a rat's ass if you don't use, never heard of and don't care about light cream. Just because you don't use it doesn't mean the rest of the world doesn't. I don't give a rat's ass about you, but you, unfortunately, exist.
Bingo. Truby proved long ago that she's an ignorant and self-absorbed mess of a human being.

Light cream is what used to be called table cream. Mostly used for coffee, and has more fat than half and half. In other words, it tastes good, unlike half and half which is more like water.

I use it to make White Russians. Heavier cream usually puts sweaters on my teeth, which I dislike.
Ah ok, I’ve drank my coffee black for quite a while, before that it was always half and half. I thought maybe light cream was used for some specific baking thing sneakers needed, good to know it’s just for coffee.

pro-tip, coffee becomes a 0 calorie drink when you stop putting all that extra chit in it like sugar and cream, watch the waistline ladies!

The return to office stance isn’t helping either, will things ever get back to “normal”?

bullsheit. We use heavy cream and light cream in all manner of seafood recipes. Your condescending arse pretends to know thing that your very limited life experiences never filled in.
Also makes a much better custard for quiche than half/half or milk.
