Too funny!

They called for a crane into Anne Arundel county - wonder what in the heck that is for?

They are looking for the gun but they think it was dumped in AA county... the guys last name I think was "Yates" - I think... but the crook was wanted on some other stuff as well.

related to the drag racer ?

Yesterday morning I saw 6 PG cops in DC with a mustang on a roll back. Right on 5 in the PG side the was a bunch more at the pizza place with tape all around.

Still nothing on the channels. The news channels crack me up - they will break for the president taking a dump but something like this they sit on. (ha ha)

Unfortunately these things happen all the time, will proably be on the news at 12noon on some channel.

...why not a sharpshooter in a helicopter, one through the engine and, viola, the vehicle stops.

No such thing as a sharp shooter in a helicopter
Single shot at a moving target from a moving and vibrating platform = low probability of a hit.
There's a reason airplanes use machine guns

...to me that a shooter in a helicopter, coming in high behind the perp, then lowering to, what, 100' or so, same relative speed, could, with a high degree of accuracy, hit the damn hood a few times. Call it a three round burst from an AR type, AP rounds. Have a spotter looking at the immediate surroundings to call off or shoot. Get 'em when they slow to turn or turn around.

I mean, I don't know, but I just think a SWAT/Helo team could develop a technique, that, if nothing else that could reach a shoot/no shoot level of proficiency depending on circumstances as they develop.

We got an awful lot of pilots and shooters with precise battlefield experience who will be/are looking for work.

High speed criminals exact far too horrific a toll to have no tactical response, in my view.

The coast guard can do it:

HITRON

It's possible, but is it reasonable to develop the capability to counter an extremely rare problem? How often do we actually have chases that last more than 5-10 minutes?

You have to factor in the time to get the right people to the bird, the bird into the air, to the chase, and set up the shot. By that time they've usually crashed.
