Power with Control

Sounds like the old small town shakedown.

"Okay officer, where do I pay the fine?"
"You can pay me right here and I'll take care of it"
"How much is it?
"How much you got in your wallet?"
"What?"
"The normal fine, which you would have to wait til the judge has a slot to see you, say next Tuesday, would be $100. But whatever is in your wallet will get you back on the road right now, your call"

Except he has already seen the judge and been found guilty.

Please pay attention.

The point was that since there were no victims, the judgement amount was made up out of whole cloth, and oddly enough matches what's in his wallet.

Educate yourself, he has been found liable, not guilty. There is a difference Dumbass.
Guilty and liable are two terms that refer to different types of legal responsibility. Guilty means being responsible for committing an offense, such as a crime or a tort1. Liable means being legally responsible for something, such as a debt or obligation. The standard of proof is different for guilty and liable, as guilty requires proof beyond a reasonable doubt, while liable only requires a preponderance of the evidence.

There doesn't need to be a victim in a civil case.

Who is the victim when you are charged with speeding or reckless driving?

The state is punishing me for breaking the law with a reasonable fine commensurate to the crime to deter me from potentially harming others with such behavior in the future since "speed kills" and for sure reckless driving does.

Don't you find it odd he is the first person to have the statute applied like this in ever? Since his actions harmed or even potentially harmed no one, what behavior are they deterring with such a huge fine? According to all sources, his actions were the norm in large real estate transactions. The owner provides their valuation, and the lender has the choice to accept it or determine their own.

Are we saving the banks, all of whom made their money back? Are we saving the citizens, who had no skin in this game anyway? Who are we protecting with this action? Since that's the purpose of law, to ensure behavior does not harm others, right?

Face it, the only reason for this suit is that they dont want him to be President again. And of course, they need to punish him for having the temerity to become President before. He must be crushed to set an example.

What's funny is that I dont even like the man. But seeing this veritable fleet of of busses they are trying desperately to stuff him under is pretty nuts.

Even the Dems are saying, if y'all KEEP DOING STUFF like this - you will guarantee he gets re-elected. Because it's so over the top, it looks like bullying even to people who don't like him.

Near as I can tell - they came up with the number based on a remark he made, that he had 500 million in cash.

I think someone needs to check their math in all this - because it looks like bullchit. There's no way any "algorithm" came up coincidentally the amount they assumed he had on hand.

He is not the first person to have the statute applied in this way and he is not being asked to provide the alrgest bond in history.

Stop listening to liars.

He broke the law and he is being fined for it. Just like when someone breaks the law speeding or reckless driving or other civil violations You cannot report your value to one entity at one amount and to another entity at a different amount. That is called fraud. He claimed his apartment in Trump tower was 4 times its actual size to inflate his wealth when it sutied him then turned around and reported its actual size when it was time to pay taxes.

Why do you keep defending criminal behavior?

Don't you find it odd a man supposedly worth $14 billion (lolololol) hasn't paid any significant taxes in 15 years?

Funny thing about this....
Did you know that it is common practice for ANY bank lending authority to increase (on their own) a person's income level by as much as 125% when figuring in non-taxable income for mortgage lending? Look it up. They do!
Does this mean that EVERY bank lending agency needs to be held liable? They are falsely inflating the income of clients.

If you make a claim you need to back it up with proof.

If that is standard operating procedure for all transactions then everyone is being treated the same and no one is losing out.

This is not the same scenario as reporting different information to different entities to change your liability or your value which is what Trump did.
