Some people prefer to be rude, or they just didn't get common courtesy lessons when growing up.

Why in the hell are the ones driving the speed limit considered rude? Why can't the people flying down the road be the ones that are rude?

I didn't say the ones doing the speed limit were the ones being rude. That's how you perceived what I wrote. Your problem, not mine.

You are correct, the slower vehicles are supposed to stay right, slower meaning they are driving below the posted limit.
so, if the road is posted at 55, and I am driving at 55, there is no way I could be considered a slower vehicle in a legal sense.

you are starting to come around.

As long as you are passing someone than by all means do the speed limit in the left lane. But courtesy would dictate that once you passed that person then you should travel in the right lane until you have to pass again.

No, you meant that people that will not get over to let speeders get through are rude. Well, I am sorry that I do not agree. I was taught manners and I was taught how to be considerate while growing up. I hold doors for people. I say please and thank you. However, I feel that those that feel like breaking the law should have to be considerate of those that do not feel like breaking the law and move around them. :yay:

You really have a bug up your ass over this trivial ####, don't you?

A quick observation after following this thread:
Yesterday, I had to drive to Prince Frederick in the rain. I decided to see what was going on in the various lanes. Cruised up at 60 mph -almost completely in the right lane - except for a couple of passing episodes.
The reason?
The left lane was completely bottled up by people doing UNDER the speed limit, some dangerously (40 -45 mph) under. This happened over and over with gaggles of up to six cars strung out behind each other in the left lane. Same story all the way back down the road.
Don't know why I was surprised.
Obtuseness conquers common sense every time.

In many cases the ones flying down the road are rude but why would it hurt you to travel in a lane where the cars are doing the same speed you are intending to do?

No, and I do travel in the right lane but I should not feel obligated to.

but the right is for slower traffic, what if I want to do the maximum speed allowed without having to slow down for people turning, or merging or for the ones that run the left most lane only to do the quick 4 lane change right before their off ramp comes up?
If you want to do the max. limit then the manual says you should do it in the right lane. If someone in front of you is turning or merging, then change over to the left lane.

We can’t even get folks to follow the law, how can you expect them to follow suggestions? If everyone obeyed the law and did the speed limit there would be no reason to worry about folks sitting in the left lane.

If I am doing 60 in a 55 and passing someone going slower than me, I don't think it's unreasonable to wait just a few seconds for me to pass, then you can go on your merry 80 mph way. If you decide to push me you might find out you will require even more patience.
If you are passing a slower vehicle, I will not push you, I will follow you. Once you've passed him, hopefully you will move over to the right lane.

I don't do 80mph. I keep it at 9 over the max. Now I will tailgate someone doing under the max if road conditions don't warrant going slower.

With regard to the poll results

.....and an example.....

You are headed north on 235; north of Hollywood, where the posted speed limit is; what is it.....45 or 55.....

If you are going to travel at the posted speed, stay to the right.
Because just as sure as you are reading this, somebody on the left is gonna fly by you on the left like you're sitting still. Many times, that happens before you get north of H'wood.

It is not about breaking the law. Yes, many people in the left lane are there to speed but it is also used for its intended purpose. This purpose is as a passing lane and if a person is not passing someone then it is courteous to move into the right lane. It sounds as if you advocate traveling in the left lane just to spite those who might be speeding.

I'm an advocate for driving the speed limit. Nobody should be going over that so nobody should be passing.

Ok, so the 4 lanes on the right side of the median (which is in the center) are the lanes we should travel in.....glad we cleared that up.
No the median is NOT the center of the road. Do you drive in the median?

See my attached professional civil drawing.
