If you want to do the max. limit then the manual says you should do it in the right lane. If someone in front of you is turning or merging, then change over to the left lane.

If you are passing a slower vehicle, I will not push you, I will follow you. Once you've passed him, hopefully you will move over to the right lane.

I don't do 80mph. I keep it at 9 over the max. Now I will tailgate someone doing under the max if road conditions don't warrant going slower.

Every so often I realize that after I've passed a car, there is somebody on my back bumper because I haven't moved to the right lane. As opposed to most, I immediately get out of the left lane, and feel like an idiot for holding them up.

Really? You forget that fast to move back over to the right lane?

Okay... so the primary point I've gotten from this thread is that Maryland sure could rake in alotta revenue if they simply ticket for 8 MPH over posted speed limit... :starcat:

Yeah. I don't think they even pull you over unless you're exceeding the speed limit by 15 mph or more.

In My Opinion
As long as you are passing someone than by all means do the speed limit in the left lane. But courtesy would dictate that once you passed that person then you should travel in the right lane until you have to pass again.

Maryland actually does not designate the left as a passing lane,
You can pass on either the right or left in Maryland,
taking this into consideration, you could be polite and just wait until you can safely pass on the right.

as far as passing, is there some time allowed to pass another vehicle?
for instance (as I usually do on 32 when I left lane camp at the speed limit, maybe 5 over) If someone comes up on the right and starts pacing me, as they often do, I will slow down a bit if Im over the limit and let them pass me, or if I am at the limit I might bump it up a bit to get ahead of them.

If I hang in the right, I am constantly slowing down, speeding up trying to avoid the idiots that dont know how to merge etc... and my MPG can drop to just under 18mpg. Now, if I hang at the limit and dont vary my speed, I will get 24 to 25 mpg. Big difference. In short, your inability to leave in a timely manner to get where you are going is not enough of a concern to me to jump out of your way IF I am going the speed limit.

I do apologize for your lack of luck getting me to move.

I don't even think this is the case. I think people just drive fast because they're getting away with it. That, and they're just 'road ragers'. It's like, something comes over them as soon as they get in their car, and all of a sudden they want to intimidate everyone else on the road.

:duh:

the COP was pissed she was holding him up ...

... if I am on the beltway, moving along in the left lane @ 65, and PG rolls up doing 70, I move over let them pass, and return to the left lane and follow @ 70 ish

Sounds to me like she slowed down BECAUSE the cop was there.

She was probably speeding before she saw the LEO, then slowed down to follow the speed limit. The LEO couldn't prove she was breaking the speed limit so tries to ticket her on impeding the flow of traffic.

That's how I see it happening. . .

Yup - everybody makes dumb moves....especially if a faster vehicle is overtaking me quickly. Point is: I don't take it as a slight, I get OUT of the way.

I have not been stopped in over 2 years.

For speeding its been 27 years for me since my last ticket.

Seat belt violations are a different matter, I did go through a dark period on that one.,, I think I got popped 5 times in one year, two of the times were a week apart at the same checkpoint.
