Driver: Too Slow in Left Lane Ticket Dismissed | NBC4 Washington

If it was too windy for you, and you wanted to drive slower, that is fine. I understand, but why do it in the left lane, preventing others from getting by. Get over in the right lane......there are Signs everywhere on MD Highways stating "Slow Traffic Keep Right". I myself tend to go faster than others. I try to do it in a safe manner. But if someone is barreling down on me in the left lane, I get over into the right lane and let them go by. It's their ticket to get, not mine. So why make it into a more dangerous situation by staying in the left, having them swerve around you and God knows what might pop out, and boom!.....now you are in the accident as well. I am not saying it is right, I am not saying that anyone is at fault for wanting to be difficult by wanting to get back at the "FAST" drivers by hanging out in the left lane, especially when there is no traffic on to prevent you from "driving" in the right lane. It's give and take and everyone will agree to disagree on what we all should, or shouldn't be doing. Until legislation is passed, like they are trying to do in Georgia and Oregon for these same driving practices, then ppl will continue to do it, and road rage will continue to increase. Be safe all! :D

legislation has been passed, its called the speed limit.
slower traffic keep right refers to those legally going under the limit for whatever reason, towing, got stuff tied to the car etc...

but, as I said, legislation has been passed in Maryland. Thank you for consider complying with it.

I think BCP is just mad because a majority of people are on the side of using the left lane for what it was intended which is for passing, turning, or just faster traffic. The top two results support our argument and the bottom two support his. The score is 78 to 17 and that is a loss any way you look at it. In a democratic society the majority rules.

Not sure why you continue to play his game. He's Redneck-Right and you aren't... so that leaves you with a disadvantage on this forum. Keep it up and he'll have a few if his other online goons jumping all over you to demean you to lower standards. They are very good at it! Why not dismiss their lunacy and when you see the clown in the left lane, show 'em a little taste of his hick ways and be done with it!

Yeah, you are probably right. Just pisses me off when I get stuck behind some limpdick lounging down the highway at 55 in the fastlane when they could easily pull over to slow lane. They always seem oblivious to the world or full of some sort of entitlement like ...my life is so crappy the only means of control I have to hold up the rest of traffic and drive like a retard. Youre right. Stupid rant.

Figuring they wouldnt want to rear end me, I thinking he means to do the pass and clip that is so popular among the speed racer crowd (they are very angry people) so if they make an error in judgement and actually do clip my front end,
this is what I expect it would look like for them a few seconds later.

Police issued nearly 200 tickets to drivers going less than 65 mph in a 55 mph zone. On Oct. 6, 2011, a driver was ticketed for going 59 mph.

Maryland Transportation Authority Police say that officers have discretion as to when it's appropriate to enforce traffic laws.

"A driver who exceeds the posted speed limit by even 1 mph is violating the law and is at risk of being charged for excessive speed," says Sgt. Jonathan Green with the agency.

"It is important to note that the risk of injury during a motor vehicle collision increases as vehicle speed increases, making speed enforcement critical in terms of maintaining highway safety," he says.

Police also note that the 200 tickets represent less than 3 percent of the 7,000 tickets.

On Saturday, March 30, the speed limit on the ICC will go up from 55 mph to 60 mph. A Maryland Transportation Authority study found the highway can support the higher speed limit without any safety risk.

Only a half-dozen drivers have received speeding tickets going 60 mph or less on the ICC. The latest case happened last October.

On the other end are tickets that are less debatable. Sixteen drivers were caught driving over 100 mph on the ICC.

Power with Control
It's important to note that the risk of injury increases as speed does. Evidently not so important to note that speed alone is the cause of around %3 of all crashes. Poor driving causes far more crashes than going fast.

Officer: Do you know why I pulled you over sir?

Me: Uh, I was speeding?

Officer: No, you weren’t speeding.

Me: What?

Officer: I’m giving you a ticket because you weren’t going over 65 in a 55. You do know that’s the law right?

Me: See you in court officer.

You left one important detail out, the so called driver was in the left lane, not passing, just cruising holding traffic up.

:bs:

The article only says the person was driving in the left lane. It doesn’t say she was ‘just cruising holding traffic up’ at all.

As far as I know there is no law in MD that requires you be passing while in the left lane. The article did say the police can use discretion; there is no citing of any law the person violated – at least not in which the cop gave the person the ticket. She WAS speeding. Why didn’t she get a ticket for that?

The judge found her guilty. Guilty of what law? This is what’s called legislating at the bench; judging creating law where they have no authority to do so.
