wait a second. People need to stay right because MOST people want to speed in the left.
Yet, MOST people do 40 instead of 50 on St Andrews Church and 245, and this time the MOST are in the wrong?

what is it, should we consider what MOST are driving and adapt accordingly, or should certain people have signs on the car to indicate they are the ones to set the terms of the road.

Its either most or its not.

It is my belief that the ones doing 40 in a 50 are doing so because they think the speed limit is 40 or 45 not because they are being jerks trying to hold everyone up. Those same people do 60 or more once they reach 235.

another example of stupid drivers not understanding left lane, following a car over the bridge doing 45 the whole way, get to St Mary's side and speeds up to 50, get to 235/4 intersection and what does he do gets in the far left lane. I just want to see if he'd make left into the cracker barrel, Nope he stayed in left lane, 45 MPH on down to the base WTFO...

The speed limit is the sspeed limit, what is there left to understand except these pre-maddonnas who devise their own rules that they think everyone else should follow for their own personal comfort?
55 is 55, regardless of what lane your in- "courtesies" are not in the law books, my friend.

Everyone already agreed that there is a 2mph buffer so if you are doing 55 according to your car and I am doing 55 according to my car but I am overtaking you I think the left lane should be used for that purpose or should everyone else calibrate their speedometers to yours.

So as not to guess, I actually did have mine calibrated, (margin of error is less than 1mph up till 80 or so, then its not as accurate, but still not out by 2) it is now as close to exact as one could ask for.
And I have a paper in the glove box that shows it as such.

so, if Im doing 55, and you are doing 55 and gaining on me, I would suggest that you get yours calibrated. or, if you are behind me, you can always slow down and pace me, check your speedometer and just make a guestimate as the the margin of error.. I consider this a public service.. no need to thank me.

by the way, is 2 mph really enough to piss you off? seriously?

You know, this morning on the Beltway, I was cruising along at my usual 55mph when I came up on a car doing under 50. You know what I did? I slowed down and left space, and followed a safe distance the rest of the way to my exit. Of course the a-holes behind me were still acting like a-holes even though I was not the one setting the pace.
I didnt tailgate, race up on them, or even flash my lights, I didnt try to blow by them and try to clip them while cutting back in with my finger in the air or anything.
Imagine if everyone was equally polite.

That was great at the time of calibration but is the tread on your tires the same as when it was calibrated? how about the tire pressure, is it exactly the same? For all you know due to slight fluctuations you could be off by 1.5 to 2 mph now.

I am that polite, if you read one of my older posts in this thread I do not tailgate or give anyone any indication that I am mad at the speed they are going. When I can, if I can, I just get around them. I am so polite that I travel in the right lane most of the time unless I am passing so I don't block the other drivers that may want to go faster.

Then nobody here would know how to drive.
By the way, if you break a middle finger, you might think, "GREAT! Now how am I supposed to drive?"

Not likely.

Not likely.

Seeing as how my tires have less than 5000 miles on them, And the speed still matches GPS readout like it did, Im guessing that I am still within the 1mph.

but back to the question that was never answered by bilbur.
Is a difference of 2 mph really enough to piss you off?
and if not you, would you be just a little concerned with the mental stability of anyone that did get twisted over a 2mph diffference?

Depends on if I have my cruse control set or not. For the most part no, 2mph would not piss me off but if I am on the open road, there is two cars pacing each other in front of me and I have a long way still to go then yes, I can get mad at 2mph difference. Especially when the car in the left lane can travel at the same speed in the right lane.

I just dont get pissed off at going the speed limit. Guess Ive never had to drive far enough in one shot.

If you have doubts about your speedometer; and you happen to have a GPS; the rarity these days being folks that don't have one; just go by how fast the GPS says you're going.

actually, for some reason the GPS is not 100% accurate 100% of the time.
But, its close enough and usually what I look at anyway.

I would use my GPS to track speed, but then I'd have THREE to look at; analog, digitial in the car, and the GPS.
Too much to monitor in our traffic; might run over one of those non-signaling lane changers.

You mean those special people that will drive 80mph down the left lane, then at the last second try to cut 4 lanes to the right to make an off ramp? those people?

If I see them starting the move, I close the gap in front of me that they are aiming for. Love to make them either slam breaks to slip behind me or just miss the exit.

Just like I can't understand why it is such a big deal to be in the right lane if the cars in that lane are going the same speed as they are. From what I have read so far it is a mixture of a feeling of entitlement and spite.
From some of your previous posts I don't think we are much different in driving habits. I will do up to 9mph over the speed limit but I hang out in the right lane unless I have to pass. I never get mad at people at any speed in the right lane because that is what that lane is for, I only get mad when I want to pass a car in the right lane and there is someone in the left lane pacing them, making no attempt to pass, with 10 to 20 cars behind them.

Oh, they don't just do that on the beltway. They try that down here too.

Ah yes, the rolling roadblock.....happens anywhere there is 4 or more lanes of thru traffic. Ya just have to resign yourself to 'if ya can't beat 'em.....'

Then by reading my posts you understand that on roads like Rt-50 or the beltway, you will almost never find me in the left most lane.

My argument is with a road that has the two lanes in each direction, entrance and exits on the right that cause one to constantly slow and speed up. I choose not to be in that lane, I choose to drive the left lane at the speed limit without having to slow and speed slow and speed slam the brakes because someone enters the lane at 2mph then slowly speeds up.

My typical drive in to work is. 424, speed limit, exact. Rt 50 to the beltway, 63, right most lane. because I am going to exit right onto the beltway and dont want to get caught up forcing my way back to the right at that point.

once on the beltway, its 4 lanes, I hang in the second from the right, at 55mph. I dont use the right due to the on off ramp issues. This leaves the two lanes left of me for the agressive drivers.

But, on 235, You might just catch me in the left lane at speed.
