This is just my opinion but I don't agree with you. If you and a friend were walking side by side in a narrow hallway slowly with a crowd of people behind you would you continue to block those people or would one of you get ahead of the other in a single file fashion so there was room for others to get buy. It is no different on the roads, if someone is doing the same speed as the people in the right lane it would not hurt them to move over to let faster traffic pass. I think it is rude for people to impede the flow of traffic just because they can. The law also says I can play my music at a high level until 10pm but I don't because I know my neighbor does shift work and might be sleeping. This is no different, it doesn't hurt me to listen to my music at a reasonable level to accommodate others just like it wouldn't hurt the ones doing the speed limit in the left lane to pull into the right lane to let traffic by.

If on a two lane road, you end up with 5-6 cars stacked up behind you, a courteous driver would get over and let the build up past them.

/snip

This is a thoughtful, courteous idea. I see bus drivers do this all the time.

ETA: And bilbur, I'd like your post more than once if I could.

I love how people are defending speeding, rather than obeying the traffic laws. It's rather hilarious.

Odd, I didnt mention speeding at all, did I? As a matter for fact, these last few days since coming home from FL, I have been cursed with a large amount of under the limit drivers. Willows at 35, Rt 5 at 40-45 or lower. Was bhind a Corvette the other day, was 5 under approaching the college, and the entire 30mph section was taken at 20 damn mph. And we stayed at 40-45 all the way to Cooks.

When I lived in Calvert, I wish I had a nickel for every time *A COP* did this to the rest of us - parked his butt in the passing lane and cruised along at exactly 55. Of course, no one wanted to pass him - nor pass him on the right. The consequence was this slow rolling roadblock until he pulled off the road.

What I would do is pull next to him and wait for him to get stuck behind someone going slower that HIM, in the passing lane - then pull ahead, get into the passing lane and slow down to about 50 to let everyone else pass him.

I lived in Lusby for about nine years - this happened about once a month on the drive home.

Thank you so much for yet another internet lesson.
Now look up law
look up speed limit

You seem to be putting frustration in the wrong place, the one impeding your zippy lifestyle is not the guy going the speed limit, its actually the one that decided what numbers to put on the sign designating that limit.

You should zip on down to the proper office and voice your concerns with them.

Actually I am one of those who uses the right lane for it's intended purpose. I move over unless I am passing. It's called courteous driving. Not to harp but we are discussing being an impediment to traffic. Do you have any idea how long the back up was behind the woman who was caught? Extenuating circumstances?
Speed limit discussions are another forty threads.
And I don't Zip - I Zoom....:killingme

Are there posted speed limits in the hall? :ohwell:

I do the same. But, when passing, I will not go any faster than I feel safe. I will try to pass quickly and get around and back into the right lane. But, I get really fed up with folks that feel I should pass faster. I’ve found there is no fast enough speed for some folks. There’s always someone going faster. I’ve long abandoned the idea of trying to accommodate the road raging NASCAR types. I will pass at the speed I choose. If you are behind me… grow some patience. You don’t own it.

The woman did nothing wrong and her ticket will be overturned. There are no laws in MD that require you to exceed the speed limit for anything. I don't even think you are required to speed to get out of the way for emergency vehicles. This puts everyone in a quandary... Do I go 2 mph under and get a ticket or do I do 2 mph over and get a ticket? Drivers should not be put in this stupid predicament.

This reminds me of my days in high school at Great Mills. There was a certain female ethnicity population who would walk down the hall in this fashion between classes. Don't dare try to pass them and accidentally brush them as you went by unless you wanted a brawl in the hall! I guess it is these same people who are now driving in the left lane...

I have seen no running signs in a hall but if I see someone running toward me I am going to get out of the way, not slow down to see if I can make them obey the sign.

okay, are we going to have a conversation of common sense or just make it up as we go along.

There are speed on our roads. The requirement, by law, is to stay at or below that LIMIT. It's not rocket science.

.

I thought the discussion was about roads with two or more lanes in each direction.

Apparently not...all sorts of stupid hypotheticals have crept in to the discussion.

All I made comment on, in any event, was in reference to highways with multiple lanes in each direction. To be clear about it.

You are right, there are speed limits but I would leave the enforcement of those limits up to the cop's. It is not for one person to monitor the driving habits of everyone else.

Well, I don't drive the way I do to monitor or limit the people behind me. However, if you're going to ride my bumper in an effort to push me, I might be inclined to slow down. If you're going to try to send me a message, I might have something to say in return. All I ask is for some patience from folks.

Like that'll ever happen
