Boy got suspended today

Boy got suspended for five days from high school for defending himself in a fight today. I can appeal to have the suspension overturned. Here is basically what happened - Boy was threatened on bus this morning by another student, boy ignored initial threat on bus and went directly to his 1st period class. Boy was going to inform his teacher of the threat made on the school bus but teacher was not in the classroom yet. The other student entered boy’s classroom, approached and shoved boy first. Two other students “blocked” the classroom doorways of the room so boy could not get out so boy had to defend himself. The principal said that had they not both been swing when they were broken up and if boy had merely bear hugged the other kid then boy would not be suspended also. I just don’t think its fair to suspend a child for fighting if they’re defending themselves. Now I have to prepare a formal letter of appeal.

School took the easy way out and are crossing their fingers that neither parent(s) appeals. They just hate trying to get to the bottom of things.

Both boys have busted lips. Boys dad made sure he knows to defend himself...why is it that fathers don't want their boys to walk away from a fight?

In this day and age when someone attacks you, you cannot simply walk away...

My son knows to defend himself, but if I catch him starting #### than he's gonna get it from me...

Exactly - I asked about witnesses and if any investigative work had been done. The VP said no because there was testing going on today so they couldn't question other students yet.

But wait, there's more...
Screw that! Is your son supposed to just stand there and be a human punching bag until the teacher decides to come back off their smoke/coffee/BJ break to do his/her job?

Screw that! Tell 'em you'll file a lawsuit against them for their failure to provide a safe environment and adequate supervision in the classroom.

Why not? Everyone else is suing these days!

That's what happens!

We went thru it twice last year. The second suspension was overturned and she was allowed back into school after a lengthy chat with the VP. (The first was only for the remainder of the day and didn't really count)

:yeahthat: I told Kalisa that if someone else throws the first punch/hair-pull/biatch-slap, they're fair game, and I'll back her without a doubt 100% of the time. And if it's a boy who does that or shoves her, she is to hesitate not in giving him a good swift soccer kick in the balls. :bubble:

Trust me, I don't want to make a sissy out of my boy but I've got to get this off his record - there is college to think about. It would be different if this happened in the neighborhood....just not at school.

That's the conversation I had with the VP but I didn't resort to threatening a law suit although I was prepared to if necessary:yay: I had all the numbers ready to go in my phone for when I left the school.

What you afraid it might go on his "permanent Record"?? Please..

Friggin murderers can to to college without any special considerations or hoops for the applicant to jump through, I'm sure they aren't going to care that lil johny got suspended for fighting.

It would be much better for him to walk away, get the "weak" label and be tormented for the rest of the time he's in school.

Not the rest of the time he's in school, just till the end of the day, off school property and preferrably no witnesses.

Ding!

It's like Otter said - the school is hoping you'll shut up and go away. You're probably going to have to MAKE them do the right thing.

I had heard that if someones hits you twice, it's self defense if you hit back, however, that's not acceptable in SMCPS. Both kids get in trouble. I suppose you should stand there and get your butt kicked, then be laughed at by everybody in the school.
Isn't one of the goals of the school system to build self esteem in their students? i guess they just haven't figured out how yet.

In DC when you fight in school the only thing you have to worry about is if that will start a turf war. And you can best believe the beef between those two people will never be over no matter how quiet its kept.

But, in SOMD...

...well my son knows that I have his back as well and he knows to get in touch with me if something jumps off. Mommy will be on the premises asapas his advocate.

On the homefront it's the same but his last home fight was taken up a notch when 6 kids jumped him. He is 8y/o. At first I was nice and taking the children to their house and talking to the parents. Now, I just go straight to their houses and usually they try to beat me to get there.

The time he was jumped by six I went to the two main houses and left my info for the parents and spoke to another parent. Neither parent called me back. So, I sent officer friendly over there. He hasn't had any problems out of those kids since.

I can't wait til he is in high school because there are 6 grandsons and they will all have each others backs just like my sisters, brothers, cousins and me have each others backs now. Sometimes you want to see BAKs get they azz beat down for the shiat they pull. Some of them really believe they are invincible.

In a fair world those two "doorkeepers" would be sleeping with one eye open right about now and walking the streets with that third eye open because at some point you WILL get all their azzes back.

But, in this world you just write your grievance ask for a smack on the wrist and no documentation to records and whatever else bubblegum tacts are smiled upon. :jameo:

I think they have that rule in hopes that a fight doesn't break out so there are no incident reports. All teachers and principals know that if someone hits you (HITS you) that you need to whoop that azz :boxing: no matter what the rule book says.

Here's the other side of the coin Masey. Why do mothers always insist on a course of action that gets their children beat up over and over again???
