I don't believe the story of a truck accident. If so, it means the Internet is too easy to take down. I suspect it was something elese that the full story isn't told to the public, "as usual".
It's ridiculous that a truck accident knocking out one fiber line can cause three states to go down.

I get all that. My issue is that one single fiber line can bring down Breezeline's service across multiple states. That truck happens to hit the one single point of failure? Seems like poor infrastructure design.
Just wait until everyone in the country is tied to electric for EVERYTHING and someone attacks the grid.

Just sneakin' around....
Arc welded?

Maybe it's different, but fiber used in aircraft is more or less glued end to end.
I've installed many a fiber connection. A fiber splice tube not much bigger than the fiber itself is used, with an optically correct "glue" compound, then cured under UV light. And that's just one fiber. That trunk looked to have between 32 and 96 fibers. Then the whole thing is encapsulated in a weather-tight capsule or wrap.

I'm still skeptical myself, as well. It's hard to believe ONE BROKEN CABLE shut down three states. Sounds like a scapegoat.

The tech I talked to yesterday afternoon told me that they had two major breaks in two different locations.

How fast they did get it back online tells me that that snarled mess in the pic wasnt the issue. No damn way could that mess have been repaired that fast.
