Latest email from Breezeline:

It's no secret that households need access to high-speed Internet at rates they can afford. That's why Breezeline is participating in the Affordable Connectivity Program.

The Affordable Connectivity Program - operated by the FCC - helps communities stay connected by reducing Internet charges for qualifying low-income households with a one per household benefit up to $30/month or up to $75/month for residents of Tribal Lands.

Households are eligible for the Affordable Connectivity Program if one member of the household:
  • Receives SNAP/food stamps, Medicaid, or is eligible to participate in another one of the FCC’s Lifeline qualifying programs
  • Receives Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) benefit
  • Receives free or reduced-price school lunch or breakfast through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP)
  • Enrolled in a school that offers free school breakfast and lunch to all students through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)
  • Received a Federal Pell Grant recipient in the current award year, or if the gross annual household income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines

The affordable connectivity benefit is portable from one participating provider to another but cannot be transferred to another individual or household even if they qualify. Eligible households can get more information, including plans that may be free with the benefit, and enroll at breezeline.com/acp. Qualifying households will be subject to Breezeline's undiscounted rates and general terms and conditions if they disqualify, de-enroll, transfer their benefit to another provider without cancelling service, or if the program ends.

How about a $75 discount for those of us with paychecks bled dry by the Federal and State Governments?
Actually I wouldn't mind a kickback for using my OWN Internet for my job.

And they'll say, never mind, just drive back into work, instead.

BTW - if the story NOW is, oh it was a COUPLE of accidents back to back that shut down the Internet in three states - THEN I know they're lying.

Until they come up with a plan that disconnects my Internet and stops billing me when I am away from the house (i.e., in the office) I won't worry about using the internet at home for my telework. After all, I am paying for that internet all the time anyway. No kickback needed because I was paying for the internet all day long even when I was at the office.

From what I have heard, it has already been tried. People requesting compensation for internet charges, office furniture purchases, printers, etc.

Two things -

I sure wouldn't mind SOME compensation from the cable company - whatever they choose to call themselves - for DOWN TIME. Grant you, yesterday was just about five hours for us, but it's been longer at times.

Secondly - my job actually DOES require a degree of security in my office. No line of sight from outdoors. That sort of thing. I think they also had some requirement that it be done in an office that IS an OFFICE and not the family room, but if that's the case, I can name LOTS of co-workers clearly violating THAT proviso. Mine might as well be a command bunker. It's so cluttered with screens and computers and stuff, I have to wedge myself IN each day. Part of that is intentional. I love my family but I don't like them dropping by unannounced frequently.

A lot of deductions can be had for work-at-home expenses.
