Buell opinions?

Another thing to consider is Harley discontinued the Buel line. they claim they are going to support it but you know in a few years parts might get more pricey than they already are. Eric Buel is still making bikes but I think it is on his own and only race bikes.

Harley guy made that very point yesterday when he steered me away from the $8,900 '09 Buell and had me set on his $18,000 soft tail, taking great pains to describe how it handles like a dream, is rather nimble, and, well, heh, heh, why, it's a Harley!

I wouldn't call a Softtail "nimble". First Harley I ever rode was a Soft tail Deuce and it rode like crap. If all Harley's rode like that I would never have bought one.

Best riding bike is the $23K Ultra, best handling is a Road Glide but it has a look many say only a mother could love.

Harley's handle quite well, aside from having less lean angle. But they are not for everyone as Bob will run in and proclaim in about 10 seconds.

 It's safe to assume you didn't test ride either bike

My Strom is set up with highway pegs and two side, one top, 48l (I think) locking Givi cases, heated hand grips, crash bars and an under engine bash plate.

Did you hear him mumble under his breath..

Handles like a dream.. as long as you go straight, on a perfectly level road..

Harley has their niche, it's called a cruiser for a reason.

18k for a softail you can get a NICE BMW that does handle like a dream. ABS, Traction Control, CAN-BUS, you name it.

Or for half that get a new YamaHarley, or Honda Davidson.

Actually watching what you like to ride, and what I picture you doing..

KTM.. that would be my best guess for you.

Not the best on-road bike, and not the most comfortable, but more capable than most off road or at least off of the beaten path.

One of these days, when Harley has a test ride event, I really need to go try one. Maybe the Barcalounger posture is a good one for me, I havent tried it yet. I have tried a kinda sportbike crouch, on the EX500 I owned, and after driving that sucker to Ft Leonard Wood, MO, from here, can say for sure thats not my style:otter:

And since Bobs not here, Harleys are not for everyone:coffee:

Did I make it to ten seconds..

I suppose thats what its going to boil down to, is how far does Larry want to stray from his bark eating roots? How much, if any, dirt roads do you plan on feeding the new bike? Or are you going to stick soley to paved roads? Occasional dirt roads, with some minor rutting? Or full blown motcross type stuff? Going to do multistate runs on a regular basis? Or just local commuting?

'My' bike would be great to jump on to run to the bank, go for a cruise around the valley on a Saturday morning or ride to Broome's Island for a day or Deep Creek for a few days. I would be on it for short trips, alot. I would be on it for a few hours pretty often. I would never, EVER be on it for some freaking 3,500 mile week long Pete style 'vacation' and never, EVER to go to Sturgis or Daytona. Or some other collection of two wheeled cattle clatching.

That's why I am looking at sport/tour. Sport/adventure doesn't ring with me because if I am on some logging trail I am on the dirt bikes. I wouldn't even begin to know where to go ride around here where there is any substantial off road yet not enduro type riding.

Larry? Mister "you all are crazy to be on the road on a bike"? You're considering, and it would appear actively pursuing, the means to "hit the road"?!?!?!

:faint:

Honda sales guy says 'cruisers' are the end of the lower back as we know it, that every bump and jolt, because of where and how you sit, impacts the lower back.

Harley man says "Blasphemy! It's a Harley!"

Suzuki man says sport/tour because of where and how you sit, is the best riding position, especially if you're gonna be at it for awhile.

I made the mistake of starting to ride out on the road to the mailbox. And then running down to the other driveway. And back.

Yup.

Harley man said "You're a big boy. A Harley suits you..."

Honda man said "Anything you say you like I will second it...I sell whatever you think you want..."

Suzuki man said "You know, Buell is going out of business, right?"
