Buying a townhouse in Lexington Park

Hello all,

I am new to the area, and I am looking at a townhouse to buy while I am here. The house I am looking at is off of Manon Way, by Cadillac Jacks. I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight as to how bad the neighborhood/area is.

Any and all info would be GREATLY appreciated.

THANKS! :buddies:

I wouldn't buy there. There are townhouses in Hickory Hills, but I don't really know about the area. There is a small group of townhouses at the intersection of 235 and Hermanville Rd, and I've known two people who lived there (1 owned, the other rented), and they both liked the cluster. New townhouses on 235 southbound side, N of 4. Townhouses in Wildewood, Leonardtown, Cedar Cove...I'd look around some more.

Thanks for the reply [/sarcasm]

So, I signed up half a year ago, which makes me an expert in buying in somd?

I signed up when I received my offer letter from NAVAIR. I am still very new to the area, and already tired of renting.

Thanks for the advice. The reason I am attracted to these townhomes is that I can pay it off in 4 or 5 years. I am trying to stay below 150K. Is that feasible in the areas you mentioned?

Pretty bad. Like mAlice said, check out Hickory Hills and some other locations. You don't want to be in that area near Cadillac Jacks.

I would think with the way the market is, and foreclosures, you'd be able to pull that off, or at least get close.

I hope you enjoy the ghetto, cuz that's where you'll probably end up looking in LP/Cali in that price range.

You live here and work on base...take a drive around. That area is maybe 2 minutes from gate 2.

I am so very blessed
I bought a single-family home in old Westbury 15 years ago, neighboring the townhouse community that you mentioned. The townhomes were nice at the time, but they have since gone down hill.

I wouldn't live there; the petty crime there is bad, and there have been instances of more significant crime as well. People also don't seem to have much respect for their property and keeping it nice, and it definitely shows. Loud vehicles also cut in to your personal comfort level, and people cutting through your yard is gonna happen.

The few things that I did love about it: my house was very affordable, and the convenience of being right in town made going shopping a breeze.

Having said that, I was really glad when I moved from there....and I'm guessing that it has only gotten worse in the five years since I moved.

Thanks for the replies all. Maybe I should clear things up a bit....

I currently live in the Park Villas apt's, right behind McKays. I have been here a couple months, and have yet to see anything that bad.

However, everyone I talk to always seems to be super quick to say how bad the "ghetto" is, and how bad this area is. I am a bit confused....this does not seem all too bad to me. This is why I wanted to get some insight on these particular town homes.

 You just did get a few insights on those townhomes  obviously they weren't what you were looking for. Here, you'll probably like this - those town homes rock - no crime - great neighbors - and they're FREEEEEE!. Is that more like what you wanted to hear?

If you like the area - then tada found your new townhome. What else do you want?

Dude, stfu. I'm not talking about the comments regarding how bad the area is. I appreciate those comments. I'm talking about the people saying things like "enjoy the ghetto" and "just look there." I'm trying to get insight like what BadGirl gave - someone who has actually lived there, not just driven through it and gotten scared.

did you call the police department and ask about crime stats for that neighborhood?

You're new to the area - half the people here are not. They are aware of the higher problem areas vs the better places to live. Just because they don't actually live there doesn't mean you can't thake their insights as how it actually is. I don't live in Compton - but I know I sure as hell woudn't recommend anyone to live there.
