The harris fire is 1 mile away from my parents house.:bawl: Dad is heading back to work since he is critical essential personnel. Mom is packing the last bit of stuff in the car. I told my brother to not forget the Xbox360 and halo3. (sorry a little humor in light of this terrible situation)

:huggy:

I talked to my brother last night (he lives in Poway) He said he wasnt leaving the house because people were looting :tantrum:
I was out there when the cedar fire happend and he and my dad had to do the same thing patrol the streets w/ the police for the looters. I havent talked to either of them yet this morning (something is up w/ the cell reception) It is sad that people do things like that :frown:

They just showed images on ABC 10's coverage and the main radio/cell signal towers have been burned.

I'm glad the winds have let up, but I'm still worried. All the smoke inhalation is horrbile for the people trapped there. My sister is trapped on the beach on base. They moved her from her house. She said the smell is horrible, and you gag on the thickness of the smoke.

I didnt even think of that... I hope the looters houses burns down too. Then all they are left with is some 50" plasma they stole from someones house, and no where to plug it in.

Uncle and cousins have checked in and they are okay. I JUST got the e-mail from my uncle and he says the winds are 50-60 miles per hour.

Winds have calmed down. Santa Ana winds have completely let up it appears. :yahoo:

I just talked to my daughter in Port Mugu - Ventura County, CA and she said the same thing - that the winds were really wild last night but now they are almost completely still. Maybe the worst is nearly over?

I'm sure the looters are living in the low income apartments which were not touched :coffee: Thats where they lived last time.

Why doesn't Los Angeles...

... use the California Speedway as an evacuation center. They're :blahblah: about their local schools being filled up with evacuees because they can only hold a few thousand people.

But the California Speedway can seat more than 120,000 people. Surely, it'll hold (between the infield and stuff) 200,000 people or more? I mean, they're already using outdoor shelters as it is.

Add info

I just heard that Camp Pendelton is on standby, ready to be evacuated.
350,000 acres burned, St. Marys is about 260,000!

Oh yeah, it's tons of fun here. The reporters are getting on my nerves. 85% of what they put out is useless info. From the maps I've seen, the fire in the south is only about 12-14 miles from the base out here, and I think that most of Miramar is evacuated, of civilians anyways.

A friend of mine in Laguna Niguel says the fire is about twenty miles away. He's not worried, he's going down to the beach for a few beers and bikinis!:yahoo:

Time to think about changes to the building codes. Gov Schwarzeneger should introduce legislation to have houses built from masonary as in Europe. Tile roofs, etc.
In Germany, the interior walls are also built of cement blocks. This should cut down on fire damage in future.
Homeowners should buy fireproof boxes to store valuables. I know this may increase costs, but should prevent future destruction.

Jack Russells RULE!
Why did CA eliminate scheduled burns? (I think vrai mentioned that earlier). That may have eliminated a lot of the fuel (i.e. dead scrubs and underbrush).

Just an opinion. FoxNews reporting that 750,000 people are now being evacuated. Holy Macaroni. Hope everyone is ok.

MSNBC reports...

... 960,000 evacuated.

Local officials have given up, saying thje fire will burn all the way to the coast and there's nothing they can do to stop it.
