Where would you go if you're looking for a nice, white sand beach, peace/quiet, some local activity but less worried about touristy/bar-hopping stuff and more about R&R ... Turks & Caicos looks nice ... Cayman is pretty ...
Any specific area and/or resort recommendations?
TIA!
That is beautiful, and would have been a good option for what we were looking for, but we've already booked to go here.
Looks like a great place! Enjoy your trip!
BTW, Ti Kaye was amazing. You can go to tripadvisor.com and read all the positive reviews. It was the most relaxing vacation (honeymoon) we've ever had. And the resort was small and out of the way so it was super private.
I dream about going back some day. :sigh:
That's how Sunset is as well ... small, secluded, relaxing ... but Ti Kaye would've been a perfect option for what we want as well (if I hadn't already booked it). We're really looking forward to it.
My boss loves St. Lucia ... I'll be sure to mention Ti Kaye to him for one of upcoming vacations he and his wife go on. They take four a year, and one of them is always St. Lucia, so I'm sure he'd be all over that.
I was lazy and didn't bother to read this whole thread, but when do you go on your trip?
May 25-31st
We are going to Freeport 3/23. Wish I found this thread before I booked our trip. Not sure it will be the best family friendly island. Kids are going with us and I am just hoping there will be plenty for them to do.
What resort are you visiting?
The island seas resort.
I'm not sure where that one is in Freeport. Hubby and I have been there a couple of times - the last of which we spent at the Westin. It was beachfront and the casino was directly across the breezeway. It was a very nice place but we went off season so there wasn't much open. We'll never do that again.
Is it in the "Our Lucaya" or "Port Lucaya" area?
Here is the web site address. Bahamas Resort: Island Seas Resort located in Freeport Grand Bahama is a great destination for your bahamas vacation.
Hubby and I decided to pick a place where we could cook our own food and hopefully save some money. This is the first time we are taking the kids with us and didnt want it to be a million dollar trip.
Honeymoon!!! I missed that part, Congrats!!! My bro & SIL went to Jamaica and loved it.I didn't see if anyone else mentioned it but the Dominican Republic is amazing! There are some things to do outside the resort, like waterfall/ rainforest tours, but you have to book them through the resort. I would steer clear of Majestic Colonial, it wasn't horrible- but from what we heard from others, there are much better places. No matter what- make sure your resort is all-inclusive; it sucks having to carry around a wallet/handbag in the Caribbean.
The Bahamas was great, but go to Freeport. There are some really remote places that offer loads of privacy. (I think it was called the Buckaneers Club that we ventured too. It was closed for the season, but it looked so awesome. It had the straw huts on the beach. That's all I remember ) Things in the Bahamas are so expensive, but when we ventured to The BC, we passed more locals and found food much cheaper.
We stayed at the Xanadu which was a wonderful hotel, but you will have to rent a mini bike to get places. It's too far to walk. Freeport offered a GREAT time and I didn't find it too "touristy". Granted, it's been 14 years since I've been there....
Just watch out for the ladies that want to braid your hair and take you on a time share tour. Actually the tour wasn't so bad. We got a free lunch, couple of drinks, t-shirts and two excursions out of it. We did the booze cruise and horseback riding. The booze cruise was so much fun.
I really believe that was the best vacation ever!!
Oh my gosh I had to walk on the other side of the resort to avoid the braid ladies!! They are vultures!
Thanks for the warning.
