Catholicism and Abortion.

:yay: The Catholic Church has made a hard open public stance against abortion. The Catholics put out white crosses in front of their churches to symbolize the 171 babies being aborted every hour.

In the past many people have criticized the Catholic Church for not speaking out during World War II against the murder of the Jews. Well now no one can say the Catholics have not spoken out against the massacre of unborn babies through abortion.

This time the Catholic Church is not quiet at all.

I don't believe abortion should be a form of birth control, which some women have used it as, however there are situations that abortion is the only solution, and that should be understood, not treated like the women in those situations are bad people, if a women is raped, how can anyone expect her to carry a child and feel it move inside her and be forced to relive the rape constantly

:flowers: I do agree with the above statement. I might add that some woman do carry the offspring of rape and God bless them for their strength.

Here is a website link with the text for the famous (or infamous) Supreme Court case,

Case Law, Roe vs. Wade, text script.

The "desenting" opinion given by Justice Rehnquist is given last near the bottom of the web page.

It seems odd that a dead-beat dad would be against abortion but then you do seem odd.

Do you happen to know the actual percentage of abortions are performed on women where the pregnancy is the result of the rape.

I'd be interested in knowing that specific figger.

I'm sure its low. With the number of birth control methods available (pill, patches, injections, condoms, abstinence) I can't conceive of using abortion as that method. I'm sure there are cases of forcible incest, extreme genetic issues, rape, or mother endangerment. Those would be the types of pregnancies for which it could be an option, but not for Jane on the street that refused to use any protection so she could trap John and when he didn't fall for it - well, better get rid of that.

 I think a true Christian or any person that would actually do the principles of Christ would be the oddest person of all.

May your daughter, sister, aunt or mother never be the victim of rape or incest. :duh:

well amen to that, but that kind of sounds like something you might say to someone who is FOR illegal abortion. rape/incest cases are among the major reason why abortions should never be illegal.

I said abortions are bad, illegal abortions are worse. So, I don't really understand why you're saying that. Can you explain please?

The time for birth control is before conception. Since this is the Religion forum let me put this into a Biblical context.
Jeremiah 1:4-6

4Now the word of the LORD came to me saying,
5"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
And before you were born I consecrated you;
I have appointed you a prophet to the nations."
6Then I said, "Alas, Lord GOD!
Behold, I do not know how to speak,
Because I am a youth."
Of course this was spoken to Jeremiah but indicates that God knows us before we are born. We may not have been consecrated to be a prophet, but He knew us before birth.

if someone was going to have an abortion, do you think god would rather it be done in a hospital or clinic or someone's basement or in an alley? most christians I've heard from seem to prefer abortion be made illegal and performed in a more criminal barbaric fashion.

Please provide a reference to support your view. "I've heard" doesn't count. If you believe in God, there must be scripture to support your opinion. Please share with us.

I said that most christians I've heard from prefer abortion be made illegal. in this case, I think "I've heard" should suffice as it is actually common knowledge. that is, most of us in the real world would tend to think it's obvious. but if there's anyone else on earth besides you that doesn't know that the overwhelming majority of christians want to criminalize abortions, then please let them speak up here so that we can look at them as we're looking at you know and say "what ####ing rock have you been hiding under the last 50 years that you don't know that christians want to make abortions illegal?"

Making abortion illegal might make the rate go down, but it won't stop it. Drugs are illegal, but does that stop anybody? These desperate women will find a way to have it done, or there will just be more babies left to die in dumpsters. I say keep it legal.
