Who is the cheapest?...fastest?

I've gotten the exams at Urgent Care in the past but was recently told that there are other offices that do them faster/cheaper.

New law went in to effect this month and your medical certificate is now an active part of your records...so no more "skating" on getting it renewed when it expires.

check to see if your reg dr. does them... print out the form from MVA .. and have them fill it out

If the doctor is certified to do the physical, they have the forms

My son went to the doctor that has a "walk-in CDL physicals" sign on his window in Leonardtown and was in and out and it was a decent price.

If you are leaving the food lion parking lot and heading in the direction of the McKay's parking lot... it is the office in the building just past the Plant/nursery place. The "walk-in CDL EXAM" is on the big window of the office.

That's the place that one of my drivers went to and said that the guy checked his pulse, blood pressure, and weight and filled out his card

Wow, I didn't know about that new law. I have to admit, I used to maintain my medical but since I don't use the license anymore, I figured it wouldn't be an issue not having one.
Guess I better go get a physical!

I've heard a little bit about this new law, but don't know the details. Link? In the past, I would go to urgent care for the physical the day before renewing my license-wouldn't get another physical till next license renewal. Sounds like this won't work any longer...

My last one expired in July. I never worried about it expiring before now.

The notice they sent me in Dec said that I either send in a copy of my current med cert or appear at an MVA office and downgrade my license...or it will be revoked on the 31st of Jan without further notice.

This to comply with a new Federal mandate that goes in to effect on January 31st. Figgers.

I was told that not everyone with a CDL received that letter the same time I did; apparently the MVA is doing some kind of rolling notification over a period of time so they don't get swamped.

That's what I always did too.

2, Effective January 30, 2012, commercial drivers must provide the MVA with copies of their updated medical documentation (DOT Card & waiver/exemption if required) for the duration of their CDL, whether they are actively operating a commercial motor vehicle or not. The MVA will be contacting CDL holders, subject to the new FMCSA requirements starting January 30, 2012 through January 30, 2014. You DO NOT need to submit your medical certification (Med Cert) information or declare a self-certification category with the MVA until you have been directly contacted by the Administration. If you are contacted by the MVA to provide them with this documentation and you fail to do so within the time frame indicated, your entire driver’s license privilege both commercial and noncommercial will be cancelled. However, if you visit a MVA branch office to renew or obtain a duplicate, corrected or new CDL, you will be required to present valid Med Cert documentation at that time. The driver must also declare a self-certification category relating to their type of commerce. Click here for information on the self-certification categories. See CDL Medical/Physical Requirements for more information. You may also Click here to view the Frequently Asked Questions link for additional information.
