Chicken and Dumplings

Well, I got a little ambitious last nite after work and decided to make chicken and dumplings in the crock pot. The recipe I use calls for the refrigerated biscuits (like Pillsbury)to be added the last hour and 1/2 of cooking. Unfortunately, I fell asleep before the last hour and 1/2 of cooking. Do you think you can bake the biscuits and then add them to the chicken mixture?

Try it and see.

What I'd do is dump the chicken goober into a baking dish, top with the biscuits, and bake until they're brown. Either that or bake the biscuits and serve the chicken stuff over top.

Oh...that's a good idea, I didn't think of adding the chicken mixture over the dumpling. I'm gonna give it a try.

Do what Vrai said, but I'd take each biscuit and roll into a log, then place them over a pie plate type of baking dish with the chicken goodies in the bottom. Make it all lattice-like so the biscuit gets all nice and crunchy.

You've just made yourself a delicious chicken pot pie.

When I make chicken and dumplings, I make a traditional chicken soup recipe - whatever you like to make - and then at the last half hour, I bring the soup up to a boil. While that's going on I mix up a batch of Bisquick and then I drop the Bisquick dumplings into the hot soup. The dumplings thicken the soup up a little bit more and then have your chicken and dumplings! :cartwheel

I'm gonna have to make them soon!

I do it this way too! This weather is really making me think about making a pot as well.

My Gammy used to make the BEST chicken & dumplings. Sadly enough, I have never been able to duplicate it. :ohwell:

I used to use Bisquick for my dumplings but hubby prefers the biscuits. I got my recipe from my mother and hers was the best, she used to use the dutch over, I just switched it to a crock pot.

Same here. My mom's is very good too, but I cannot dup either of them.

Christy's mom makes the best chicken and dumplings, with Bisquik dumplings, so that's the way I do it. I thought she was lying to me when she said it was Bisquik, but nope - there it is. Surprisingly light.

I use Bisquik too and have that part down, but the gravy and seasonings I can never get right.

I'm telling ya - I make my soup...and then when all the veggies are cooked and it's "soup" I just make the Bisquick recipe and viola! The best, fluffiest darn dumplings ever! Each time

I must be the only one who doesn't like chicken and dumplings.

Eating a big ol' hunkin' piece of wet dough just doesn't do it for me. I do like pot pie because the dough is slightly dry and crispy.

:yay: Mom made 'em that way and at least once a month too.
