Has confinement issues..
That isn't what he's asking for:

He wants to be let go for 30 days to see her. That doesn't sound like "Let me go see my dying daughter one more time." It sounds like "I want out of this place and maybe I can use my daughter as an excuse."

He has also been allowed to visit her escorted, just as everyone says he should be allowed to:

But he's looking to be released. Not escorted. That is what is being denied:

Notice that the FBP is not allowed to release or suspend a court imposed sentence. They cannot do what he is asking. What he should do is have his lawyer ask the judge that sentenced him to reconsider his sentence and modify the conditions.

Screw that... He's had his visit.

The reporter really dropped the ball somehow when it came to presenting the circumstances of the incarceration. Almost as if he had an agenda or something.

It'll be filled in when the Lifetime Channel (or whatever new name it has) runs it as a movie in prime time.

Hopefully that'll be the extent of what comes out of it (IF that's what happens) and not some new friggin screwball law that enables convicts to be given leniency... And more tax $$s going into said new "law".. :dead:

The evolution of this thread is interesting. Given the original story, only the most heartless bastards voted not to allow him out. But then more and more facts were presented, and it became clear that this is a reporter with an agenda, and a drug addict who wants more than just to visit his dying daughter.

How many of you would change your vote if you could?

This thread would be an interesting study in a Sociology class.

I voted "no" but I actually hadn't voted in my own poll until last night when I thought long and hard about it all. He got to visit with her 2 -3 times and I thought that was generous and then to hear he gets to call and talk to her every night, I felt that was above and beyond generous.

The article, in my opinion, excluded this was a meth involved case because the reporters knew that would hinder sympathy. Meth has destroyed so much of our society today. I've seen so many young lives destroyed by meth addiction and in the past 4 years I have been working with addicts, I've had 5 die directly from the meth use and another step out in front of a car.

I thought the story was thought provoking, no doubt, and in some other outside sources, there were many compassionate people who read this and said....

:bawl: Screw this war on drugs. They are being unfair, but we wanted tougher drug laws on traffickers as a society; this is the result.

It is sad for the little girl, but not often do any of us get a chance to say good-bye to a loved one before they leave this life.

The little girl is unconscious so she's not the one this thread is about. She can care little at this point whether dad is a voice on the telephone or a stripe-suited visitor chained to the chair next to her bed.

:howdy:

On my way to the pet store they had this on the radio news. The reporter chick was interviewing the brother and was completely sympathetic. The brother said "30 day release" and that the dad has seen the kid already a couple times, but the reporter kept saying, "That's outrageous that they won't allow him one day to see his dying daughter."

:lmao:

So yes, this guy is looking for a get out of jail free card. The news people annoy me with their spin.

I voted for him to see his daughter, but confused the 30-day "get out of jail free" card thing with one more visitation (I should have fully read his request, rather than interpret the newsie spin). I still think they should let him see his daughter, for her (not him).

...kid conscious and aware? Does anyone know that yet?

The brother in yesterday's interview stuttered a bit on that topic. He said that she was unresponsive and unaware, but she really wants to see her daddy. The reporter asked, "How does she communicate that she wants her father?" The brother went, "Humina humina....ahh...well...oh! Her face lights up and she shows joy when her dad calls her from prison!"

So the answer is, she is unresponsive and unaware, or shows joy - whichever suits the family at the time. If they play their cards right, this kid could be the next Terri Schiavo. I expect George Bush to get involved any minute.

I would think...

You vote that they should let him go for 30 days? Or that he should be allowed escorted visits?

...it entirely appropriate for him to see her ONE last time, for a few hours, IF she is coherent and IF doctors say she's just about gone. If she is not conscious of her surroundings, forget it.

I also think it entirely appropriate to perform accurate journalism.

:yay: He has had three "one last times" in the last month. If it is truly for her, I could see allowing another visit. I just do not believe this has anything to do with her.

I'm not cold hearted. But you say it's ONLY a drug charge. Do you realize how hard it is to be indicted federally for a drug offense. When the Feds take a drug case, it isn't your run of the mill guy on the corner dealing drugs. There is a lot more to it. This guy has been given two visit's with his dying daughter. He has seen her and had an opportunity to say goodbye. What if he gets out and she doesn't die, but then she is going to die next month...oh wait..maybe the month after that. There are plenty of mothers and fathers who wished they had their kids with them, but don't because people supplied them dangerous deadly drugs!

He doesnt want to get out early dumba$$ it says in the article he wants to be transferred to the work release center early so he has the opportunity to spend time with her while completing his sentence, for you and Sharon I hope you find yourselves in the same psoition someday!! You both are heartless!!

You wish cancer on a child, and they are heartless?

Try reading the whole story, not just a one-sided pity story. There's way more to it.
