Chopticon teacher on a week +++cruise???

it is a shame that subs don't get more money, that's the main reason there's such a shortage of subs available. on the other hand, they don't have to plan or grade. what is the pay per day in this county? I'm assuming from the number you quoted that it's @$45?

FROM the SMCPC website

Substitute Employees
Substitute teachers are hired to teach students in the absence of a teacher, on a daily or long-term basis. Preferred applicants have had some experience in working with children. Substitutes are paid every two weeks during the school year, based upon the number of days worked. A substitute for a secretary or a paraeducator is paid $55 per day. A substitute teacher without a bachelor's degree is paid $55 and a substitute teacher with a degree is paid $65 per day

You are making that implication. All i've EVER stated was the $40,000 a teacher makes is actually a greater wage than the $40,000 the average joe employee makes. Nowhere did i say they didnt work hard (actually i've said the opposite).

the 1440 is based on 7.5 hours a day 190 days a year. this is from St Mary's (sorry janitor boy) board of education.

Average Joe 2080 hours is 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year.

Both may work extra hours, but that doesnt change the fact that teachers start out 600 hours less than the average joe, for the same $40,000.

Man, you are a lost cause. Seriously, go talk to a teacher and then come back and post here since you seem to know nothing about it.

I am using the figure that was thrown out before. if you'd like to compare a teacher making $35,000 a year versus an average joe makine $35,000 we can do that too.
You're still being unfair to the common. Again, it's local government vs. private sector.

If you're making $35,000 in the private sector with the same educational credentials (College degree), you're doing badly.

you can't change how much "average joe" makes, its supposed to be the category that most people fall under...

You cant make that comparison, since its your choice to work that career.

It doesnt change the fact that a 35k or 40k a year teacher is making more than a non-teacher also making 35k or 40k a year. Its basic math.

Maybe you should see a teacher on a professional level instead of just learning about their work habits.

And maybe you should stop the assumptions, just because i dont agree with your point of view doesnt mean i dont have experience with the subject.

And a ton of Rocks is not heavier than a ton of Feathers, it just takes less space

no, basic math says that if two people make 35K a year, they are making the same amount. I think what you MEANT to say is that by your calculations (which just about everyone disagrees with) the teacher makes more per contractual hour than the "average" joe.

Okay, fine. A teacher (with a College Degree and other certifications as required by NCLB) making $35k is more than a high school dropout who makes $35k a year. I see what you're trying to say.

But, anybody else with a college degree is probably making more than $35k a year? Am I right?
