teachers work hard, just like everyone else
teachers get paid a fair amount, just like everyone else
teachers deserve to take a vacation once in a while, just like everyone else.

Why do you think papers and midterms are done before breaks?

Since you seem to be having trouble keeping up, I'll answer for you.

It's so the teachers can grade them at home. Not 'may' do them at home.

Also, since you seem to be on this kick saying teachers 'may' do work at home, where else do you propose they do their work?

It isn't in school, because that's where they're actually teaching.

And i keep telling you that it isnt universal. Some May/Do/Shall/Have work from home, others dont.
That still doesnt get away from the fact that the $40,000 base salary is based on 600 hours less than the average joe also making $40,000.

Instead, they have to put teaching and instructional stuff on the back burner and have to babysit everyone elses' kids because parents about teachers have to do more to parent their kids because they're too damn lazy to.

it is a shame that subs don't get more money, that's the main reason there's such a shortage of subs available. on the other hand, they don't have to plan or grade. what is the pay per day in this county? I'm assuming from the number you quoted that it's @$45?

oh I know it isn't universal lol. Obviously a gym teacher doesn't have papers to grade, but the overwhelming majority of teachers have many many things to do on snow days that are work related.

The 600 hour less thing is BS simply because they aren't at school and punched in does not mean they aren't working. Thats kind of the point of salary. The BOE who decides the teachers salary take into account that they are putting in a good bit more hours then just classroom time.

You are making that implication. All i've EVER stated was the $40,000 a teacher makes is actually a greater wage than the $40,000 the average joe employee makes. Nowhere did i say they didnt work hard (actually i've said the opposite).

the 1440 is based on 7.5 hours a day 190 days a year. this is from St Mary's (sorry janitor boy) board of education.

Average Joe 2080 hours is 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year.

Both may work extra hours, but that doesnt change the fact that teachers start out 600 hours less than the average joe, for the same $40,000.
