Citizen Issue Cop A Parking Ticket

Yeah.

But, I bet when you get a ticket - and if it's in the realm of possibility - your husband will/can get rid of it.

And if you say no - then you're a complete liar...

Actually, I have only gotten a ticket once (in 20 years of driving) It was a parking ticket. I deserved it and paid it. I think I may have a red light camera ticket coming soon.

As far as I understand it a cop can illegally park to hit a restaurant. They have to have their vehicle close by in case of a call comes in. And they do have to eat.
:yeahthat:

Even if it's a :nono:, I don't care. He's in uniform, in a cruiser, he's on duty. He's probably gonna eat in the car while doing his job.

Which it sounds like this is the case. The cop went into the restaurant got his food and returned to his car. Are you telling me you are comfortable with a cop having to part a football field away then gets a call. The distance could be the difference between him responding to your house in time.

Nobody is above the law I agree....but........have you never parked in a no parking zone????? I know I have. I also know I have speeded, parked in a handicap spot:whistle:, left my car running without watching it the list could go on and on. I have also parked in the red zone at school. It happens. Is it really worth the time and money to fight this in court???. Can this guy really say he has always obeyed the traffic laws???

Nobody is above the law? You seem to be. Have you ever been ticketed? Did you get off because you are a cop’s wife? Be honest!

I think it's unconscionable for someone who is not handicapped to park in a handicapped spot. It’s one thing for a cop to do these things while performing their duty. It’s quite another to abuse your position as a family member of a cop to save yourself a little time or for the sake of your convenience.

Hmm, good point. There must be other laws that don't apply to a Law Enforcement Officer too...

Lets make a big list of laws Law Enforcement Officers can break with impunity! :yay:

However, it sounds to me like the guy doing this is doing it out of spite, or to make a statement, rather than respect for the law.
How are we to respect the law when the cop isn't respecting what he is supposed to uphold?? Lead by example.

He parked in a no parking zone to pick up his take out food. Big F-in deal. Good for the cop! Who here can say they have never done it. I know I have.
I can't say that I have. At least not that I'm aware of. If the no parking sign said "No parking except for emergency vehicles", then the cop would be fine but it didn't say that. Part of good law enforcement is setting an example. The "needing to be close to the vehicle" arguement holds no water. If that need is real, than an exemption should be written into the law books allowing police (and paramedics) to utilize those parking zones. Until then, it would be nice to have law enforcement personel live by the laws they're charged with enforcing. Hats off to the lawyer who's following through with this.

The point is IF we had parked in a no parking zone AND we told the cop and or judge "I only ran in to get my Kung Pao chicken carry out, they wouldn't care and wouldn't wan to hear it.

Speeding
Talking on cell phones while driving (in states that say it's illegal)
I agree we shouldn't break the law. Most states that have driving with a cell phone law exempt police officers and other first responders. As far as speeding, I don't think police officers should automatically get away with speed, but I do believe if they are pulled over then they should get any courtesy you would extend to the average citizen.

Courtesy exteneded to the average citizen? What is an average citizen? Just stirrin the pot on that one. My understanding of your statement would be if a cop were to get pulled over, which will never happen, a ticket would depend on the other cop's attitude that day and whether or not he/she wants to be leniant.
In the mornings on 235 it's nice to trail a speeding cop swerving between cars. It saves times the vast majority of the time. However, he/she wouldn't be the one getting pulled over, it would be me.
So, whether or not I uderstand your comment, it wouldn't happen.

 I can't think of any. care to help me out?

Look, I'm not making excuses for cops. There is a lot of abuse out there. I don't see a cop parking a in a no parking zone as abuse. I mean have you considered that they made it no parking so cops and other emergency vehicles can park there?

I hate it when cops speed. I had one get on my tail just yesterday then zip on by at (what looked like) about 80 - 85. I found this. I never considered that there are certain circumstances where cops aren't allowed to use their lights even when it's an emergency.

Most of the time we don't even know the circumstances. We just assume because their lights aren't on or they are toting a platter of chinese food that they are out of bounds. I put the cop abuse thing in the same category as our military and torture. Yeah it happens but it is the very narrow minority that are abusing their authority. It's those few, with the exploitation of the media, that give the entire force a bad name.
