Cloth Diapers

It's not a big deal to rinse out a cloth diaper - if you can scoop a catbox or pick up your dog's crap out of the yard, you can take care of a cloth diaper.

Do you have spetic or sewer? If you are on septic, don't even think of cloth diapers. Your septic may survive, but there is too great of a risk it will not..
Why?
You're just flushing the crap not the cloth.

Pooh (haha) to MM. What's the difference between flushing the baby's crap down the toilet now vs. after they're potty trained? Ideally at some point the kid's poop will be flushed down the toilet anyway, so why not now rather than later?
 MM isn't talking about excess poop causing a problem for septics... it's the excess bleach water constantly feeding into your septic system that could funk it up...

I'm not a big fan of crap or yack period. I clean the cat box because I have to. I don't scoop it, I use liners and completely replace everything every other day or so. I never had an interest in exposing myself to any more crap than I really had to. Disposables for me please.

Wash cloth diapers separately from other clothing because you'll want to bleach them, use a mild detergent and an unscented fabric softener (not a Bounce sheet).

That right there tells me no to anyone on Septic.. Bleach kills the bacteria in the septic that turns the solids into liquids..

Should I be concerned that I bleach everything I can and am on a septic. I've never heard not to use it and stopping is NOT an option. My OCD... ONLY white sheets and towels so that they can be bleached. :jameo:

I get great coupons through the mail for Huggies and Pampers every week. There are a ton of websites that offer them. Plus, The Post Sunday Edition has diaper coupons every week. I have 2 in diapers right now. I would never even comtemplate switching to cloth diapers. :barf:

septic system

The term "septic" refers to the anaerobic bacterial environment that develops in the tank and which decomposes or mineralises the waste discharged into the tank.

Waste that is not decomposed by the anaerobic digestion eventually has to be removed from the septic tank or else the septic tank fills up and undecomposed wastewater discharges directly to the drainage field. Not only is this bad for the environment, but if the sludge overflows the septic tank into the leach field, it may damage the leach field piping requiring expensive repairs.

See, and I'd rather plop the turds into the toilet than swish the diaper around trying to rinse off the runny baby crap.

So, if you're on septic, use a non-chlorine bleach.

If you do over 5 loads a week using bleach, problems could arise, to iclude septic system failure. Avoid powdered detergents, as they contain non-biodegradable fillers that can plug your system.

So yeah, it can be a problem, and an expensive one. Big $$$$ to replace a septic and leach field..

It's not the poop, it's the extra loads of laundry putting many many more gallons of water into the system.

Or just use Tide with the Bleach Alternative.. I don't see much difference between the 'bleached' laundry and the laundry washed in it.

AND we are also talking about laundry, not considering the ones that use bleach (and other even worse chemicals) to clean with. How many people dump a cup of bleach in the john to get rid of staining?

They also mention lint from the washer ruining leach fields, as most of our clothes are synthetic, it doesn't degrade, just sits there until enough is there to block your system up. They sell laundry filters for houses on Septic too.

Oh for god's sake.

#1, all those disposable diapers (the plastic covers of which aren't biodegradeable) laying around a landfill are a lot more environmentally unfriendly than wash water. Not to mention piles and piles of human feces and urine - that can't possibly be healthy.

#2, you're talking about two extra loads a week - tops. When my kids were little, I washed diapers ONCE a week because we didn't have our own washer and dryer and had to go to the laundromat.

I must use bleach, real bleach. I use Clorox 2 as well. :jameo: :jameo: :jameo: I'm crazy but I have clean sheets and towels. I also wash everything with the hottest water I can. I use anti bacterial cleaner on everything. I wipe down the washer between loads. Someone help me! :jameo: :lmao:

Me either...I've got 3 in diapers (will my son EVER potty train, lol) and it is SO much money. I use every coupon I find also, every little bit helps!

I buy ours @ BJ's and they ALWAYS have atleast $2-3 off of Pampers Easy Ups and Cruisers.
