Adults who should know better belittling a kid for acting like a kid.
I think this is part of my issue with this thread. It's not as if Janet is 12 years old, she is, I'm guessing 21 or 22. She is not a kid any more, and should be embracing the changes in her life with excitement and the rush of "I did it!!!", and not running scared from the future.

Yeah, I am proud of Janet for completing college. But it's not as if millions of people haven't done exactly the same thing with far less advantages and opportunities.

Thank you and pixie. What you two wrote is exactly my point. I wasn't trying to belittle her accomplishments, for I think ANYBODY who goes to college should be commended. I have told her that before on the boards and in karma.

Rather, she is so focused on the trivial negative aspects that she's lost sight of the excitement of moving towards the future and enjoying something that a lot of people never have the opportunity to experience. At 21, Janey IS an adult and if she expects to be treated like one, she needs to ACT like one. Everybody has their fears about the uncertainty of the future. It's normal and a part of life. But concern about not graduating so she can't have a graduation party should be the least of her worries.

Janey is young, but quite normal. Give her a friggin' break for making an effort. For cryin out loud, she's gotten this far in life in this area without getting knocked up or locked up, which is quite rare around here if you haven't noticed. She might be lacking slightly with direction now, but it is quite normal. There's folks here twice her age with the same problem, but ya'll think that THEY'RE funny!?

:peace:
I think I love you. Or at least owe you karma.

Ah, if only I could merely go to college and nothing more. No parents, no grass to cut, no wood to chop, only my personal chores, and most importantly no job. Yes, that would be the life.
