Cracker Barrell not what it used to be

Just went to Cracker Barrell for lunch today. It certainly isn't what it used to be. The Turkey special on Thursdays sounded pretty good. At least I thought so. I had a cup of beef soup as a side. The mashed potatoes were highly salty. The turkey, same thing. The beef soup, also highly salty. Everything, highly salty. I talked to the manager. She said she would check with the cook and make sure it has done correctly. I am not sure why everything had so much excessive salt. I could not eat over half of the meal because of the excessive salt. It's too bad.I was looking forward to a good meal there. I guess I will have to scratch them off of my list.

I said the same thing a number of months ago. Haven't been there in a long time now, and only for b'fast.

To give the local "chefs" credit, they don't actually "cook" a lot of the food they serve. It's pre-packaged, pre-seasoned. Whomever supplies the food is being told to prepare it this way.

Was Cracker Barrel ever anything to start with? Only went there once about 20 years ago and the food was way, way, way over salted and tasted of chemical preservatives. Never saw a reason to go back.

If course, the place was full of blue heads whose taste buds were long dead, so …. What did anyone ever see in that place anyway?

When CB took the Duck Dynasty products out of their stores several years ago, I took them off my list and haven't looked back.
Didn't know this. I'll never spend another dime there.

Towards the end of her illness, wifey used to collect roosters. Anything rooster. CB had a huge cast plaster rooster that she eyed rather hard, that we couldn't really afford.

I stubbed my toe on it the last time I went into my daughter's kitchen.

The service at the one in California has been terrible, the ladies that work the register and the store have been good. I like their chicken pot pie, but I only get take out from there now because of the bad luck with the wait staff, typical St Marys county wait staff.

The only thing I like there is the Sunday pot roast. If I want breakfast I’d rather go to Bob Evans for biscuits and gravy

The last two times I went there the kitchen was slow and they forgot to bring out half of the food. It's a shame but it's time to scratch them off the list of places to go.

I've never been to the local CB...in large part because I've yet to see a positive review since they opened. CBs elsewhere used to be our "go to" places to stop for breakfast and a break back when we were traveling up and down the East Coast for offroading events. Been a few years since we did that though....

Same old story recycled over and over. New franchise eatery opens. Corporate helps with opening and the service/food is usually really good. After 6 moths to 1 year, corporate hands it off to "local talent." The service/food begins to decline. Wash-rinse-repeat with every new franchise eatery.

That. Seeing same at Texas Roadhouse. We really like the place for the first couple years it was open.

That's why I prefer to support locally owned and run businesses.
