Cute Kitty Picture Thread!

I always have such a hard time getting pictures of my cats' eyes. The flash always reflects :\

You have to turn the flash off (or at least I do; I've never been able to use it). Here is a series I took; flash on and off. The annoying thing is that the lighting has to be just right, since you can't use the flash.

The other annoying thing is shown... without the flash, the shutter speed is slower, so the picture blurs (my hands shake). This camera has image stabilization, but it's just not enough. In the last picture I rested my elbows on the stairs and that was enough to get a good picture.

You may be able to use a secondary flash or external light and be sure not to hit their eyes, but I've never tried it.

Good luck!

What kind of camera do you have? If you have the option, try bumping up the ISO or fiddling with the aperture.

That particular series was with the hubby's camera (a brand new 13 MP Sony that's as big as his cell phone! I gave it to him for his birthday), so I didn't want to mess with it too much... he's more the enthusiast than I am, though I have picked up some stuff.

My camera is about 6 years old, and has a lot of options, but they're awkward to get to. Meh.

My parents got him a memory stick for his birthday this weekend, so I can have mine back... his fancy camera didn't come with one!

Edit: Hmm... my ISO only goes up to 400. I haven't figured out the other settings yet. I managed to get a ghost kitty picture, though. Perhaps I should post that. :)

Yeah, I've tried it and have the same issue, with the blurring I mean. It's just a pain to try and figure out how to change settings on a digital camera. I'd be happy with a good old analog where I have to get the film developed, just so I have all the buttons and knobs clearly on the surface of the camera. Photography class didn't teach me how to use dem new-fangled digital cameras.

That, and it takes to long to go through a camera's menu to get just the right settings, and going back and forth between that and taking the picture. Or maybe I'm just lazy.
