Thank you! That makes me feel really good about Manny's surgery. That's a big kitty!

I just called at 8:30 because I hadn't got the call I expected at 8, and they told me he was still in surgery. I guess he got a late start.

They told me I may be able to take him home in the morning, or I may have to transfer him to my local vet depending on his status. I'll be calling at 6am to talk to the overnight vet to check up on that, and I'll be waiting up tonight for his post-surgery condition. I'll be sure to either post an update on here or get some rest (if at all possible). Either way, I'll definitely post here to let you guys know how he's doing by tomorrow morning.

Thanks again for all the support, to all you guys, I wish there was a better way than this I could convey my appreciation. I'm starting to relax a little; the more time passes, and the more I research, the more I realize that this is not uncommon nor a terribly difficult endeavor.

I'll never forget your names, or what you've done to help me keep my sanity. I wish the best for your pets' health for the rest of their lives as you've wished for mine.

:huggy:

The staff at MASH gave Alex much more time with me before he finally got to a point were neither surgery or $$$ could stop the growth of his cancer. He beat it...as I had him put to sleep about a year later.
Had it not been for the skilled staff and awesome Docs at MASH, Alex would have died a lot sooner.
I would not think twice about bringing any pet to MASH...

And he was a huge cat with ripples in his fur!!!! He was 9 years old and a huge love!!!!!

Your Manny is going to be fine!!!! Keep us posted!!!! :huggy:

I don't think Manny's doing so well. He came out of surgery and they didn't find any obstruction, and he still has a fever - but they did say he seemed happy. At least with the pain meds he was on. I'll be seeing him first thing tomorrow morning when I transfer him.

I'm not a religious person, but please pray for him tonight. I will be. Until and if I ever get some rest.

Hey,,no obstruction is good news!!
With fluids, antiboitics,,,whatever the issue is, should turn him around.
Glad he is feeling Happy...pain meds are a great tool in cat surgery!!I am sure they did a real good look while they were inside and if all looked OK..then that is very good!
A good nights sleep for both of you will do wonders!!!
I am all of 6 miles from MASH..so if you need anything...give me a shout!!!
Prayers fro you and Manny :huggy:
Now go get some sleep!!!! tomorrow comes early!!!!

Thanks, I'm trying on that whole sleep thing right now. I'm gonna let the discussion end tonight in hopes that it will relieve some stress; I have an appointment for both myself and my Manny in the morning. Will definitely update asap.

BTW, Mittens, our other baby is doing very well. Will probably be more comfortable once Manny is back - but definitely okay at the moment. ♥

My mom's on her way to go pick him up right now. They never found anything in the surgery, they think that the strange mark in the xray may have been some overlapping intestines. It seems the high dose of antibiotics for the surgery may have kicked some illness that he had, he's up and meowing (and head-butting) in his cage right now, muc better compared to his lethargic state yesterday. Hopefully she'll get back before I leave for a doctor's appointment at 9, MASH is a good distance and I know they have to give her post-op care instructions to relay to me. He's still not eating but they say that's not abnormal after a surgery. I'm going to try and give him some treats and wet food when he gets back, maybe he just doesn't want to eat what they're giving him. I'll be sure to update when he eats and I see him. I'm so glad he's feeling better.

Seems weird they'd operate..I'm sure it cost a pretty penny. What were his symptoms that caused you take him in or did I miss that?

Looks like he's going to be fine. I'll let gurl catch everyone up when she gets a chance. Right now she and Manny are napping. If she hasn't posted something by this evening, I'll post an update.

Thanks all for your well wishes.

Manny went into surgery late last evening. Gurl got a call around 10:30 from the vet. They didn't find an obstruction, as suspected by the x-ray's, so they poked around while they were in there, took a biopsy, and stitched him up. When he went into surgery his temp was 105.

The doc said when he woke up this morning, his temp was normal, and he was back to normal. I picked him up around 8, had him home by 9, where he promptly started licking the 6 inch incision in his belly. I called gurl and told her to stop and pick up a collar from the vet. When she got home, she put the collar on him and he spazzed. I had to get to work...gurl called later and said that Manny had finally settled in for a nap.

I don't know if he has eaten yet...will talk to gurl later.

Sounds like Manny had a bad GI virus and the fluids and antiboitics did the trick.
Hopefully the biopsy will be negative.

Keeping Manny in my prayers....and he is a cute guy!!! :huggy:

Keep us posted!!!!

Manny's napping again and eating well. He won't eat his special diet of boiled chicken breast and white rice without a little of his regular wet food mixed in, but he's eating and that's the important part.

Catt - the initial symptoms were lethargy, not eating, and vomiting bile, and a hairball came up the day before which was really strange for him. The xray showed what looked like something at the base of his stomach, I think they called it the pylorus - where the food goes from the stomach to the intestines. When it turned out they didn't find anything, their best guess was that it was overlapping intestines.

He's sleeping on my boyfriend's bag for college right now. I could swear he's smiling. He's gonna have to move soon so my bf can go, or my bf is just going to have to wait it out :)

Oh, and he'll be going in for a follow-up on Monday, and I'll get the biopsies sent in sometime between now and then.
