The media sees the movie before it's released to the public.

I think this is what you are looking for...

In the scene, only Fanning’s face, neck, shoulders, hand and foot appear onscreen. Much of the rape is depicted in darkness with only the sound of Lewellen’s screams.

In a question and answer session following the debut late Monday, Kampmeir was asked if the scene was edited so that shooting it was different from the depiction onscreen.

“It wasn’t edited, so it’s surprising all the controversy. It’s nice when people can actually see it,” she said.

Sundance is the top U.S. film festival for movies made outside Hollywood’s mainstream studios, and movies screening here often tackle dark subjects the studios will not.

Kampmeir said themes such as child rape need to be discussed in public. “It’s like this terror, but when you speak about it, there’s this openness for healing,” she said.

I think it should be discussed, even make a movie with Dakota Fanning, but don't make a kid act out the actual rape scene. What did Mommy do for Dakota that morning? "Oh Sweetie, let's get ready for your very first rape scene. Would you like pancakes or french toast? You need a good breakfast before the rape"

How do you drive your daughter to that? I want to borrow Smoothmarine's pimp hand and smack this biatch :smack:

DF is an outstanding young actress. She does not need this to win an oscar. Her day will come, and I'm sure it will be sooner rather than later.

Are you really saying that 11 year olds can make all their own decisions regarding sexuality? And regarding career moves? Do you ever read what you write on these forums?

And are you really saying that no kids have ever been pushed into doing something that they didn't want to do? You think her parents and all those producers couldn't talk her into it? It would be a lot of pressure for a kid to get involved in a big budget movie and stop production just before the big scene because she didn't want to do it.

I agree, and I don't think girls at the age of 11 fully understand what a horrible thing rape is. I think they need to be more mature to understand a scene like that. The movie producer and director could have come up with a better way to shoot that scene.

In any case I saw her interview and it didn't seem to bother her.

I believe the title was "Once we're Warriors". Although the scene was troubling, i didn't find the film as borderline kiddie porn. It was about the flight of the Maori tribes in New Zealand and how the society affects their way of life. I've been in New Zealand and spent sometime there and have Maori friends so I can relate to the movie.

That's it! Thanks.

No where did I say it was borderline kiddie porn. But it too had a kiddie rape scene and based on the description of this current rape scene in dakota's movie-they sound pretty similar. Point being-Dakota's movie isn't the first one of its kind so I guess I'm confused about the hoopla over just this one. I guess it's because this child actor is actually known.

"I didn't have to articulate to Cody and Isabelle the psychological elements that were going on in this film," she said. "I used images to tell the story. I didn't manipulate these children or explain to these children what was going on."
okay :eyebrow:

"It's not really happening," Fanning said of a rape. "It's a movie, and it's called acting. I'm not going through anything. Cody and Isabelle aren't going through anything, their characters are."

Its called acting folks, and young people portraying sex (concensual or not) in movies is nothing new.
Anybody every hear of Jodi Foster, how about Brooke Sheilds?

I'm obviuosly not a proponent of child rape, but i will wait to pass judgement on the movie until i see it, though i doubt that will ever happen

Did y'all see Hide and Seek? I would think that movie might have lasting effects on her too. Poor thing. She's doomed! :lmao:

But seriously...I wonder if kids get scared when they act in a scary movie.

Probably not, because it's shot different than the way we see it. When they're walking down a dark staircase, alone, with a boogeyman ready to pounce, what they filmed was them walking down stairs with dozens of crew members standing right there.

I have a 10 y/o niece, who is quite brighter, more wholly socialized, broader in her ability and skills than one can reason that she should be. I stay on the phone with her for 45 minutes, then another half an hour to both her parents combined. She has an incredible make-up - is genuine, will perform or hug you when you're sick. She could be an actress or a future entrepreneur. With dedication and heart.

Now the reason I say all of this is, although she COULD handle such a role, her growth and spirit mean far too much to me.

The movie may have something to it, I don't know. I just know that my loved one would be protected by me. Though it would never make it past her parents, who support all of her initiatives as she follows through.

Isn't that the time/place Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old cousin?

Yes it is... And it creeped out a large portion of the public back then too.
