This isn't the first movie ever to portray child rape by an adult.....or even by another child. I wish I could remember the names-but there was one I had to watch in one of my english classes about a family and in it a 12 yr old girl gets raped by her uncle during a party her parents were having...it wasn't graphic - but it was disturbing....and there was blood on the sheets the next morning...

There was another one about a bunch of "younger" teenagers 13-15 and one girl gets raped (she was passed out-but it was very graphic)...

Point being..yes its a taboo subject for a movie-but this is not in the least the first time it's been on the big screen...nor can it be the first parent of an actress/actor who allowed this.

Having a scene suggesting a rape is one thing..... Man walks into girls room. She has sad look on her face. Man walks towards the girl, unzips his pants, turns out the light.... Scene ends... Now that is what most movies do.

Naked thrusting with both parties shown in plain view is just disgusting.

The teenager movie I think you were talking about was called Kids.... I hated that movire too.

Kids-agreed, wasn't my cup of tea.

It wasn't just a suggested rape, it was shown (under the covers) but shown none the less.

Was that the New Zealand film? The one under the covers

Aps! Quit being a big giant pervert. :smack: Focused or unfocused, the cinematic portrayal of child rape is disturbing to say the least.
I'm not familar with the story and I haven't seen the movie. A LOT of excellant movies are thought provoking and disturbing. How about To Kill a Mockingbird? That's another story about a rape but is considered an classic.
I'm not defending the raping of children, but don't think that all the outrage is anything but free publicity for a movie. NONE of the people upset have seen the movie and their outrage is based on rumor.

It wasn't graphic. The director assumed his audience could understand what took place without actually showing a lot of gratuitous sex and violence.

And how graphic is the new movie?

I think it bodes ill for our society that we let an actress that young be in a sex scene of any sort. As far as her mother allowing it? Almost as bad as actually prostituting her daughter. She should be relieved of custody.

I believe the title was "Once we're Warriors". Although the scene was troubling, i didn't find the film as borderline kiddie porn. It was about the flight of the Maori tribes in New Zealand and how the society affects their way of life. I've been in New Zealand and spent sometime there and have Maori friends so I can relate to the movie.

Oh come on. :duh: That's a bit of a stretch don't you think?

My outrage, well I wouldn't even consider it outrage, is moreso the ick factor...

1. of this girls mother thinking it's a fabulous opportunity. :duh:

and

2. It'll essentially become a legal porn flick for pedophiles.

The only review I can find is on Fox News

The rape scene, no matter how it’s spun, is disturbing and unsettling in fictional terms. In real life, though, it’s creepier to think that Dakota’s parents considered this a scene that was appropriate for their daughter

I can't even begin to think about how I feel about this one. Mostly, it disturbs me that the situation exists in the first place - from which a movie CAN be made.

Aps, the original link in post #1 says "calls for Fanning's character to be raped in one explicit scene and to appear naked or clad only in "underpants" in several other horrifying moments." Did you miss that part...

1955 Tennessee.
Isn't that the time/place Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old cousin?

Ido you really think if she wasn't ready to portray the victim of rape in an upcoming movie do you think she would have done it? She is not 6..she can decide for herself...

Are you really saying that 11 year olds can make all their own decisions regarding sexuality? And regarding career moves? Do you ever read what you write on these forums?

And are you really saying that no kids have ever been pushed into doing something that they didn't want to do? You think her parents and all those producers couldn't talk her into it? It would be a lot of pressure for a kid to get involved in a big budget movie and stop production just before the big scene because she didn't want to do it.

No, but I also noticed it was written 6 months before the movie was shown to the public.
