A while ago there was a thread on abortion, about how far along was too late. Well what if you found out that your baby would be forever handicapped? Would you go forward with the abortion or have the child? And again, whats the furthest in the pregnancy you would have the procedure? I'm just trying to get different peoples views.

Physically handicapped or mentally handicapped, say like a typical forumite.

I think that the thing that some folks don't see with some pro-choice people (such as myself) is that I wouldn't encourage my spouse or other family member to get an abortion, in 99% of scenarios, but I am still pro-choice. That makes your question difficult to answer, because I wouldn't personally be influenced much whether or not the child would be handicapped

either / or.... What do you consider to still be okay, as to, the furthest a woman can go in her pregnancy and still get an abortion. And do you think it makes it okay if the baby is handicapped?

I support retroactive abortion until the age of 18 or the child leaves your basement, whichever is longer.

I think everyone should get a vote, not just the parents.

"You, Mr. Autism, you get to stay. Blind girl, you're fine. Down Syndrome kid, no problem. Andy Tardquis, sorry dude...."

I honestly believe this question cannot be answered hypothetically. No one knows what they would do.

i know alot of people think it is wrong to abort a baby that is handicapped, but i really think alot of the decision has to do with how handicapped, a child with autism or down syndrome i think most people can handle, but someone who is mentally and physically handicapped in a wheelchair for life, is sooooooo hard to deal with. not only having to car for that person thier entire life, but the fact at some point u will be too old to take care of them, and then they have to go to a home where they wont be properly taken care of :( its a hard decision. women who abort just cause they dont want a baby should be shot, if u think youre responsible enough to spread your legs u better be prepared to have a baby.

Ever hear of a guy named Stephen Hawking?

I agree. And, nobody really knows the potential of an individual and what progress will be made with cures, etc.

My child would be my child whatever that holds. Of course, I'm far from childbearing age but that's the way I've always felt.

I feel the same. I mean a guy friend of mine got his girl preggo and she was 14 weeks and 5 days, and they had an abortion, I could have killed that girl. but then my girlfriend, the one who was suppose to be the DD. Well I said she lost her baby, because basically she did. She had amneo done because a certain genetic handicap runs in her family and it came back that the baby was going to be handicapped. She was 14 weeks and she ended up having the abortion. It's just so sad because she had every intention on having that baby. But taking care of a perfectly healthy baby is outrageously expensive, I couldn't fathom how much more it would be for a handicapped child. not to mention the amount of stress you'd be put through on a day to day basis.

Yet people do it successfully all the time and their children grow up loved, cared for and productive within their abilities.

That isn't even comparable.
That is a progessive illness, not one where he was born in that condition.
But the end result is the same. Also, Hawking's biggest achievements came *after* the disease started taking its toll. He was diagnosed in his early 20s.
