Technically an animal is "property". I am sure they like to personify it and call it adoption but once consideration is paid, the animal delivered, I am betting that a court would say "the dog is property and belongs to the person who paid for it." How "they" view it is moot.

Yesterday on Judge Judy, a girl sued her friend for falling on and killing her maltese pup. Judge Judy made the friend pay for the $1400 dog.

You said people that won't sign a contract should go elsewhere if they don't intend to abide by it, but it was okay when Ellen didn't abide by it. :shrug: That was my point :shrug: Perhaps she shoudl have went to a breeder in the first place and not RESCUE a poor little dog.
I don't feel anyone should have "forever" rights on someone else's family pet (contract, possible legal action upholding the contract, etc...). :shrug: Who's to say certain rescue groups won't abuse the situation... for example sell Iggy for x amount, call and check up and decide, its not up to your standards, contract in hand you take the dog back, sell Iggy for x amount again, call and find out that that home too is not up to YOUR standards and with your contract in hand, run in and take the dog back, give it to another family and sell Iggy again for X amount, etc... :shrug:
Not saying that happens
But just as an example. I think you make a judgement when you give away a pet and need to abide by it or keep the animal instead :shrug: I still don't think its right to sell a pet with all kinds of strings attached (contract and various contract clauses) :shrug:

Judges are not supposed to be influenced by emotion, only the rule of law. A dog is property, someone bought the property, they possess the property, they control the property, the property is now theirs.
Just because something is written down and signed doesn't mean it is worth anything. How many wills, prenuptial, sales, purchase contracts are ruled unenforceable? Hell there is a whole legal specialty dedicated to "contracts".

I'm well aware of that. Some, however, are enforced. You never know how the judge will see it. And, actually, most don't make it to a judge. Mediation and arbitration is how most things are settled now.
I believe it was from the shelter that is located off of Stoakley Road in Calvert but not 100% sure on that.
It was some time ago - probably 3-4yrs.

I couldn't agree with you more! It's sickening what happens to kids nowadays and how people can almost literally get away with murder. I could never be a Judge cuz I think I'd be getting into a little bit of vigilante justice or something!
