Answer honestly, please don't vote if you are a man.

While walking the Princess, I just passed a woman with 7 kids, one on the way, who was smoking a cigarette  She pretty much told me her life story and the biographies of her surrounding neighbors. I am normally a friendly person, say hi to people on my walk, this woman talked to me for 10 minutes all while puffin away. I finally told her it was nap time for the Princess.

What makes women think its ok to smoke? Maybe they can't read the warning labels  I see more and more of it everyday. Is it cool to have babies in the NICU?

More uneducated, welfare people are poppin out babies like its a clown car and the people who choose an education and have a good career aren't making any thus lowering the good gene pool.

Why is this?

I did not during all mine...but you are right....I am seeing more and more pregnant women smoking.

I have seen both women and men smoking in a car with babies or small children in them as well.

Not pregnant, have no children.

However, my mother smoked, drank alcohol and among other things while pregnant with me, and I weighed in at 9lbs 7ozs, and have a pretty decent iq. My granddad who was a lived a completely clean life - no drugs, no alcohol, no cigs, etc., died of bone cancer. :eyebrow:

I personally think the statistics are skewed and half the studies out there are full of crap.

As far as having children, the giant and I discussed this and decided only stupid people should bred. Intelligent people know better.

Besides, if you want to look at the law of averages, two highly intelligent people wait until later in life to even consider having children and those children have high odds of being born developmentally challenged due to the older age of the parents involved. Whereas stupid people are popping them out at young healthy ages, passing down genes that are stored away that give them higher odds of being more intelligent than their parents.

Interesting way of thinking about it....

As far as being a mom, wouldn't you want to do everything you could in your power to ensure that your child would be fine?

I'm sure your mom wasn't a booze hound crackhead.

I did for the first month or so of each of my pregnancies. It was hard to quit but I did. I also would have a drink on occasion while being pregnant.. not to the point of being drunk or anything, my obgyn actually said it was fine to have a glass of wine/drink occasionally

No, she wasn't. But look at our parents' generation. Smoking wasn't evil and having some drinks weren't going to kill your baby. Smoking in the car with your kids wasn't wrong either. There are tons of us out there that grew up with that kind of environment, asbestos in our schools, no seatbelts, lead in our homes, no helmets, no knee pads etc. when riding bikes, no car seats until we were 10, no mommy holding our hand every minute of the day, played outside all the time, and somehow, amazingly enough, we all survived. It's overkill to protect your kids so much nowadays, that it's amazing any of them can think for themselves. Remember the stories about the helicopter parents - parents going on job interviews with their precious darlings?!

If I were to ever have children, number one I'd pay to have all the prenatal testing done to ensure that I was bringing a healthy child into the world. Then I would hopefully not become a Nazi mommy like some I've seen. IMHO a child has to learn and to learn they not only have to be taught, but they need to experience things and make mistakes in order to learn not to repeat those mistakes and in the future make educated decisions on their own.

I really would like for you to email the forum when you have a child. I know I am overprotective of my daughter however, she is very intelligent and can think for herself, however, there is NO way I would allow her to ride her bicycle all over LaPlata like I did when I was 8, yep 8.....too many more cars and too many more crazies....you will see how protective you get if you have a child....different kind of love...believe me.

I'd much rather have the forum pray there is a G-d and to that G-d let's beg that I never have any.

Seriously, do you think I am saying I would let a child play in traffic? :eyebrow: There is a difference between exercising good judgement as a parent, and being a neo-nazi mommy you know. And if you don't know the difference, perhaps you need some of Paseo's pink chill pills.

However a person chooses to raise that child is up to them. if they want to be overprotective, so be it...

Their child their choice....it was easy for me to say what I was going to do or not do for my child before I became a parent....

That all changed when I had my kids....

Oh heck yeah... I was the same way before kids...I thought I knew everything about them and exaclty how I was going to raise them.

phhhht...yeah right.....

And besides, yes they did smoke in cars with their children and yes they did all that stuff, but who is to say that those kids now adults are not paying for it now???? We know better through better education and research....

They used to have live leeches for medical procedures....

Actually, they've brought leeches back for some medical purposes. Seems the leeches release an enzyme that has some extremely beneficial purposes.

Again, I don't have kids, never said I wanted them.

But I do think the statistics are skewed and more than half the studies on "what's good for you" are half-baked. Next time some agency or another tells you something isn't or is good for you - do some research and find out at least who is funding it.

that is just gross, maybe a bad example but you know what I mean...

Mig i was not pointing you out...just saying I remember that is exactly how I felt too...before kids....some women are able to control the urge to bubblewrap the children, some don't...

At first man I thought I would break them...but as I got more used to it, I started to learn....then came my second and blew everything I thought I knew out the window.
