Well her source was pretty reliable and it could only be ONE person...so I would rather not say...how she knew.

I was told it was double muzzled and then rushed to the vet but too late..

I am ASSSUMMING...they blocked his airway and did not keep check on his breathing while he was being groomed..horrible..

Why would someone double muzzle an animal? Did the groomer believe their safety was in question? Just curious.

I can second that about the double muzzle. Apparently the dog was aggressive and thought tying it with a chain to the wall and double muzzling it was the way to go. Apparantly they are retarded. My sister's boyfriend's mom works there, so I consider that a reliable source. The woman who actually owns the shop has a few screws loose herself.

I have NO idea I have NEVER double muzzled...I would have told them to take the dog home or to a vet to be done..I will do bad dogs but if they are a safety issue to themselves or me they will go home just like they came..not worth me or the dog getting hurt...I thought it was odd that I even got the story of double muzzled but it had to be important and given up information somewhere..

Groomer killed dog

I also heard that the dog had been tranquilized. Any groomer in their right mind would not try to groom an agressive dog that is drugged and double muzzled. Heard the owner is suing.

I have groomed one drugged and tranquilized..would rather the vets do it though...should have been laying down not tied up and someone should have been at the head monitoring it..why in the hell would a drugged dog need to be tied and double muzzled...could have been over drugged too but I do wonder about the double muzzling and the build type of a chows head/nose..you need to watch them non drugged and SINGLE muzzled ...wonder if it was not a mesh/wire type open front...just odd I think..

Remember when I dropped Muffin off after giving her the Ace. for the storms. She couldn't even stand up for you. I feel for the family of that dog, and the groomer should have her license taken from her or certificate. Paso rocks when it comes to dogs. Mine love her.

i think she got her license from an old cracker jack box!
seriously, do groomers have to be certified like hair dressers? is part of the requirement knowing 1st aid? I read that in California, they have started inspecting grooming shops and pet stores making sure they are clean and everything is legal.
a friend went into the grooming shop in question while taking a pet to the vets and said the floors were filthy. He said the place didn't look new, it was messy and smelly

I agree. I would have called the owner (if they had left) and told them that for the safety of their dog as well as my own, he should be groomed at the vet possibly under sedation. I guess the pull of the almighty dollar was more important that the well being of the dog. My hearts go out to the dog owner and to he!! with the groomer.

What money..I see NO money involved...what could they charge $75 at the most. Groomer gets 1/2 what kind of money is that? Nothing..

Most groomers will NOT even do Chows..our Spinner sends them to me..Lori B does not do them..a Chow can be a real prick to groom..Honestly most of us hate to see them come in..and they can leave just as quick as they came in.

To my karma giver I have never over tranquilized a horse..I leave that to the vets...if I have to knock the edge off of one it is with nothing that would over tranquilze them. I have not even ever given a horse something that would put him off his feet...TVM :huggy:

Don't get all bent out of shape. I have no idea how much a groomer makes. I was stating that maybe they were more worried about getting something vs. nothing if they sent the dog home.

Paso's right, usually a groomer makes 50% sometimes a little more plus tips. And usually no benefits.
I've found it's better for everbody to just send a nasty dog home. I won't work on a dog that has to be muzzled for the whole grooming, it's unpleasant for the dog and I. Occasionally one has to be muzzled to clip nails, but even that's unusual. And if it has to be tranquilized I send it to a vet where it can be monitored properly.
You don't have to be licensed to be a pet groomer, you don't have to go to a school. The animal control comes once a year to inspect, thats all. Really it's up to the owners to ask questions and find out how knowledgable the groomer is that they are trusting with part of their family.
When you call for information, ask if they have time to answer some questions. For me if I'm really busy I may ask to call you back. Find out how long they've been grooming, how they dry their dogs, how appointments are scheduled, and how long the dog has to be there. Ask if you can come see the shop during business hours. Ask questions.

I had a chow for almost 15 years. I got him as a pure bred pup in 1991 and had to but him down last year due to bone cancer. He was my best friend, saved me from 2 robbery attempts, and went everywhere with me when he was younger.

I groomed him myself for his first 3-4 years (since I was a hair dresser at the time) never had a problem. I had a little pocket change one day and thought, let's see what a professional groomer could do with him. I called and made an appt, gave his age, breed, temperment to the place that was the pet shop in San Souci at the time (it's long gone now) . Dropped him off at 8 am or so and got a call back about 5 asking if he was epiletic and he was having siezures. (I tried calling through out the day to find out how he was doing) couldn't get an answer.

I rushed over and he was beside himself, couldn't breathe, freaked out, scared as hell. Yet GROOMED. I paid my fee and off we went to the vet. He calmed in the car so I brought him home. I don't know what they did to him, but in all his years after that, I could never turn on clippers or get scissors near him again. Even when the Vet gave me pills to "calm" him, the minute I turned on the clippers he was alert. The vet also had to start muzzling him after that for everything including shots. I could still bathe and brush him but forget anything else.

OK so there's my Saxon's story... sorry if I bored anyone...
