Doggy body odor

Jam out with ur clam out
We def stay away from Iams a friend fed our dogs some once and all the dogs had bloody squirts. So what Are some good dog foods? We usually get our dog food from walmart and prob will not change that. I will cook rice and chicken for the dogs before i spend more on dog food in a week than I spend on my own food. lol
We used to use the applecider vinegar and dish soap on the dogs when we bathed them for 4-h shows and such. If the girls can find dead stuff or old dry horsey poo they like to have a good roll in it too. But that is not why they are stinky all the time.
Will try the yogurt. I have been using ear cleaner on them and it is helping with the insane amt of wax but does not seem to help the smell much..course the ear cleaner stuff has its own odor.

Good foods? sure I will list them... but as you stated Im guessing Im wasting my time. Grains tend to be a big problem with allergies... go ahead and cook rice but if your dog is allergic to it .. its not going to help. Chicken is on the top of the list of proteins dogs are allergic to... so same thing.

Well ...like I said... Wal-Mart sells CRAP dog food!
Innova, Innova Evo (grain free), California Natural, Verus... there are lots of other food but these are some of the top ones I have used. (and none of these were on the recall list a few years ago!!)

Hey CATT... help me out ... I know you have a larger list!!! :huggy:

It's from last year so some probably have been taken off.

I used to feed California Natural but made the switch to Evo. Dogs and cats are on completely grain free diets.

What?!
Try mixing some baking soda in with the shampoo when you give them a bath. It neutralizes the odor.

What about the health of his mouth? Dogs don't really groom like cats do, but I know that the source of smell from a persistently smelly cat is sometimes due to gingivitis, or early infections that lead to it. Does he lick after the baths?

Peppers had good prices on Evo and California Natural.

We have free samples of the dry cat and dog foods we carry. It is always best to make sure your pet likes the food before you switch it. Our house cats do excellent on EVO and the dogs are on California Natural Lamb and Rice.

BUCKING GOAT
My two cockers are stinky girls.

I used to have a Springer Spaniel and after I bathed her I HAD to spend a few hours blow drying her to make sure she was 110% dry. Especially behind the ears and under the arm and chin. Thoroughly dry or it would cause moist patches and she would stink and develop small yeast infection. Watch carefully around those curly floppy ears, the stay damp and can get infected.

I'm convinced that blow drying will stop the stinky problem

Well it could be a mild yeast issue, if so the vingar in the soap solution may help and you can deluite it and use it on them between bathes as well. It is a natural way to help control yeast on dogs with the problem. If it is just oils grabing up smell then I would try a Kelco product like Filthy Animal. It has a way of getting out the bad without striping the coat completely. Hope you can find something that works for you. Alot of it is trial and error.

I will look into the dog foods. I was always told, by vets to feed lamb and rice or chicken and rice foods to finicky tummied dogs.
We do keep their teeth brushed and their breath smeels ok, as good as a healthy dogs will smell.
We are careful to get them dry when we bathe. That is part of the reason I hate bathing them and dont do it often. We try to keep them shaved down, not close but the hair is an inch or so long, then grows out. The shorter hair did save on dry time, but did not seem to help keep the smell off.

Wow. I looked up some of the dry foods on that "best of" list and nearly :otter:

$27.99 for a 16.5lb bag of Evangers? Good Lord! Who can afford to buy that? How many hungry children in Africa could that money feed?

You can feed less of a better quality dog food, which helps offsets the cost.

The number one reason I (as a store owner) hear that people take their dogs to the vet is for "allergies". Most, but not all, vets recommend Benedryl, steroids and lots of (expensive) tests. A lot of people opt for the expensive route only to have little to show for it except a lot of vet bills and a miserable dog.

Then they switch foods and find that the animal was allergic to the low quality food with fillers and dyes and a bunch of unneccesary crap that made their dog inflamed and itchy.

I may not have gone to college for 8 years, but I have learned a thing or two about the correlation between good nutrition and good health. I mean, if you ate at fast food joints 3 X a day, it would show in your skin, hair, nails and overall health.

I feed Innova and get it from Pepper's Pet Pantry in Solomons. Is it more expensive, yes. But the quality is better and when you factor in that your dog will eat healthier and have fewer health issues (equals less vet visits), and that your dog will be pooping less, and that there will be additional benefits and rewards, healthier coat and ears and eyes, etc...then those few extra dollars you spent on the dog food are actually saved in other areas of your pet's life.

I also don't want to feed any food that has been recalled. Do some research. It's scary because we want to think our pets are eating good because the bag says so.
