Is metrocast the only company that provides highspeed internet in the somd area? I am currently looking into pricing and saw a previous thread that made it sound that way..

We have verizon dsl and it's great.
Me too. Got the 800kb and it's cheaper then I was paying for dial up.
Don't trust their website for locations where it's available. Call them up and ask.

DSL here, since Sept 1st. Avg speed is between 2.3 and 2.9 megs

No complaints with them.

Depends where you live. I feel REAL sorry for you if you live South of Gate 3 and cannot get Verizon DSL.

Metrocast SUCKS!!!!!! I have been getting terrible speads and LOADS of packet loss since last week of Jan. I was told 3 weeks ago "we should have it fixed next week"... ya right. Im supposed to have 4,000 kb/s down and 1,000 kb/s up.. I just tested my connection at 6:22pm and I have a WHOPPING 250 kb/s down with 33%+ packet loss.

Go Verizon if you can...

Like I said, I have had good luck with them so far; upload speed isn't that fast, around 400 - 500 kps, but it still beats dial-up.

Ya... it seems if you live North of gate 3, or down in Ridge you are on a different CMTS and not having the problems we are (lucky us...).

Take a look at my thread I just posted...I have a speed test on there that I just did 10 min ago.

EDIT: OH penn...I see you have DSL. LUCKY you. 500 kb/s isnt bad at all as long as you dont have any packet loss. Packet loss is what KILLS a connection.

You say you have 2.9 megs DOWN with DSL??? That would be approx 2,900 kb/s ...thats GREAT for DSL.

One of the technicians at Verizon suggested I try a site:

http://infospeed.verizon.net/

That's where I get my results from, if I want to see how fast I'm connecting at.
